What did you do to your power wagon today?

If it's about Power Wagons, all generations, this is where it'll go. This is the original PWR Forum Power Wagon Technical Discussion Section. And this includes everything that doesn’t fit in any one of the other categories related to the truck goes here!

Today I finally got around to popping out the dent in the driver's-side back corner of my truck, and putting my taillight back where it's supposed to go (more or less). Since one of the locating tabs is broken off the taillight, it's not mounted as good as it was...but that's okay, as I'll probably knock it off again anyway. This way it'll be more of a "quick-release" light, and maybe it'll pop off without breaking into pieces. :)

I also took the PW out in the woods and realized that the snow is right at the verge of being too deep - another couple of inches and I won't be able to get around anymore. The snow isn't all that deep, but the repeated freeze/thaw cycles we've had have made it very heavy - and once I start to push it with the front axle it's hard to move around. I can barely move on the level spots, and have to make repeated attempts to climb any hill. Weight in the back would help, and I'll have to add some if we get any additional snow this Spring.

Here's a quick picture I took, though the ruts are hard to see...snow doesn't provide good contrast for pictures. :)
snowtracks.JPG
The snow also doesn't help my mileage - I reset the computer before my trip, and when I got back it said I'd averaged 1.9 mpg. :D

I'd say that picture does do the snow justice! You can see the entire outline of your front axle from it pushing the snow. And in the hard crusty stuff that makes for some tough slogging.

Peeled off most of the chrome and the chrome bubbles on my grille assembly today. Cut my finger, Sanded, primered, spray painted gloss black with some duplicolor acrylic enamel. Looks OK but not perfect. Like the black on black though. Will be buying a new one someday.

And yes, while it's off, I am going to replace the front pinion seal. As you can see on the last pic, it is leaking more than just a little bit.

Well I took it on the 110 mile round trip to work last week since the forecast was a huge snow storm. Didn't even see a snowflake, so probably a waste of $25 in gas. Today took my summer tires (285-75-17 BFG M/T's on the stock PW rims) to get balanced. Removed my winter tires (35x12.5-17 Hankook Dynapro MT's on stock Dodge steel rims) to mount the summer tires. Got her all washed up and ready to go.

 $25 for a 110 mile trip ??? Lucky you. In my truck, it would have cost me $43.56 for gas to go 110 miles.

I went out for a wheeling trip with a group of Jeeps. Snow was deep and crusty so if I lost momentum it was hard going in places. The 3000lb lighter Jeeps had a much easier time then me!
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1362890449.404465.jpg
We were moving pretty quick on the trail so I didn't get very many pictures. I did, however, end up with a sway bar that won't reconnect and knocking my steering alignment off!
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1362890557.255389.jpg
We went through one water hole with a lot of ice in and around it and my front axle hit the drivers side bumpstop really hard. And because I have procrastinated in applying Fluid Film and dielectric grease to my sway bar and locker connections I think another water hole is what messed up my sway bar.

Guess that means some time in the garage tomorrow!

"What brand shell and how much did you pay?"

Century - High C is the model

Upgrades:
Carpeted Headliner
Removable Slider Bulk Window Head
3 slot 12 volt block
Tracker II rack on shell
Paid - $1800

There is a noticable difference in how the truck drives -Not as bouncy on the freeways, no "sideways" jump when hitting potholes, etc. Not as spry from a dead stop with my usual throttle application. I'm sure all due to the additional weight (I also dropped in a carpet kit). I picked up 1-2 tenths of mpg based on the OBC readings. Hopefully next week I can get it in the dirt and see if there are any major (negative) differences there. I'm expecting better traction, bottoming out sooner, and the shell not coming dislodged when flex or rocking is induced

So far I am pleased but the real test is in the dirt.
