So rear locker in high range is nice. I have had Powertrax and Detroits in my second gen and the G80 in the Avalanche. (and the e-locker in the F350s at work.)

The main advantage on road is towing (one tire on ice or pea gravel while starting out. 4hi works too.) Off road, I like running hard on dirt roads in 2wd as well the "o crap moment" when you need to lock up with out the slow roll to low range. As well in the deep wet snow we get in ourneioughborhood (3.5' last weekend.) Probably worse with an electronic shift t'case though.... Admittedly, I can't ever recall engaging the front ARB in high range on the RamV other than when the CAD didn't engage and I needed 4wd.

On the second gen with third gen wheels I would lose my front 37" BFG Krawlers below 18 psi. If you are familiar with the Krawler, it needs a little bit lower pressure to hook up well (especially when new, and I ran 3 new sets). I also lost a few rears around 14 psi.

With my current bias ply 42"s on Allied Rock Monsters (outer beadlocks) I burp the inner beads a lot. Part of that is Iroks have no traction whatsoever, even on my pig, so they need low air pressure (12-14 psi). If I ever get new tires/wheels, I will get double bead locks.

Probably don't need beadlocks on the PW unless I retire the second gen. The locker bypass is probably overkill, but I do like taking one computer out of the loop.

I too have over 30 years wheeling and I agree with ramv. I think it all depends on what type of wheeling you do . It is advantages for us to be able to lock up in 4-high for the type we do. Our trucks at work also have the e-locker and from about October to well even today we get off the pavement, disable traction control (being sure to hold down the button for 5 seconds to disable the advancetrack) turn the knob to 4-high and engage the rear locker. It stays engaged all day until we see pavement again. Not everyone needs to be able to do that especially with the capabilities of the PW but then it just makes it that more versatile.

Exactly! I probably could get by with a Jeep Renegade or Cherokee trailhawk 90% of the time. But why?

I did go into this round heavily leaning towards a G56/BAP (Sport?) 3500 but in reality I seldom need the towing capability and would prefer the better riding, manual t case, cheaper, locked up PW. Oh yeah, and the winch!

My second gen for reference; (some older pics, haven't had the doors on it for years, moved the spare a bit, the exhaust now dumps over the frame in front of the tire (with a huge magnaflow muffler to keep it quiet.)
The cage isn't bent. The body is.

Nice rig ramv. Well there is on "small" issue with PW. Wheelhop in soft stuff. That is till you load it at least.

Thanks!

The second gen did it bad too. The cage help (stiffening the frame?) and bigger tires, and revising the front UCA angles seemed to make the difference. The Avy does a bit too. (it got 5,500 lb rear leaf springs instead of the 6000+lb springs of the 2500HD pickups). Nice thing with the Av/Sub is you don't have frame flex since they have one piece bodies.

Guessing on the PW springs/shocks will help (or weight.).

Just doing this to the rear end of a Power Wagon almost eliminates the rear axle hop/wrap.
Image

And I have been told that changing to a set of these on the rear end does completely eliminate rear axle hop/wrap.
Image

Of course, you still have the front axle hop/wrap to worry about.

Nice, I saw the three shocks photo on the site before. I like the concept. I don't really like heim style joints (I use the evolution machine ones on my truck) due to wear and rattle,

Sounds to me, with your needs, what would be best for you is the power wagon. Good luck on your choice!

Yep! :P

Still have the blue '01. Lots more dents and broken parts added to the list. Only a few rollovers though.
Aaron! What's up man?! Good to see you around, and glad to hear you still have the 2nd gen. Nice Power Wagon!

With less than 500 miles on the pw, I am frustrated with how hard it is to engage the lockers. They just don't seem to want to engage. Sway bar and winch working well

Yes sir. Rear engages sometimes. the front only once so far in over a dozen tries. Sway bar is quick.

No where even close to my arbs. Even the gov lok on the avalanche was more consistent at this point.

Maybe someone else can help you. Mine was slow at first too. After about three uses, it's now pretty quick.

Try the power wagon dance (tight slow figure eights while trying to lock up).

Try taking cover off and cleaning magnets on the locker.

Don't own a pw, but BIL does. Ultimately metal shavings was slowing his actuation. Yours has low miles, but worth a try. New gen trucks have a reusable gasket, makes the job quick.

Try disconnecting the smart bar and reconnecting. The locker actuation lag time is not in the lockers.

Mine took a while too but since my bypass install they hook up immediately! You can find Cajuns email in the vendor section under the myoung bypass section. Email him and give him some time. He's a workin man with more responsiblites and not gettin as much time as he used too. Took about 4 weeks to get mine. But well worth the wait.
