Couple of technical questions from a potential PW owner

Crap, the only time I run those air pressures is when I have a load in the bed. Otherwise I run 45 psi front, and 35 psi rear for a great ride. I don't feel like a basketball bouncing down the highway.

I have Toyo AT2s and run 41 front and 34 rear when unloaded. Ride is great! The mileage in not much if any lower with that PSI either. I'm going back to the Yokohama's though as they are about 15# a tire lighter and have better wet road and snow traction. They accelerate faster and get noticeably better in town fuel economy. Load capacity is the same but at a lower tire PSI. Their just not E rated and not nearly as tough.

I have settled in on 50 front and 45 rear for the stock duratracs. Tire wear is even as long as you rotate every 5k and the ride is pretty good. The warning light is on, sometimes the display flashes at start up but less often now than it used to (everytime) for some reason. They didn't shed mud worth a darn yesterday at that pressure though... I was almost stuck in a flat parking lot with 3-4 inches of spring mud.

Very true. I'm not sure what the threshold is. I set my tires at 50.5 heated and the computer was ok. When the tires cooled they dropped to 49psi and the messages started. I think the threshold is 50 but you have to air back up into the 60+ range to reset the computer. I have to do more research to be sure. I'm going to have the threshold reset in a couple of weeks.

The thresholds are 20% below whatever your door sticker says the tires should be at. If you guys think your pressures are bad try driving around with the 80 psi that they want in the normal 2500's.

The door sticker is 60psi front and 65psi rear. Both are grossy over inflated even 20% below max. Based on the max weight rating of the tire, the pressure in my Duratracs should be in the low 40's. I might end up just building a pipe bomb and throwing it under the driver's seat.

Here is a good read from Carli. It is for diesel trucks but the principles apply. Adjust the weight bias and difference in total weight for the gas engine. Interesting that with E and D tires you exceed the GVWR long before you get to the max weight rating. The Poser Wagon only has something like a 1500lb payload capacity before maxing the GVWR which is still more than 1000lb per tire below the max rating of the D rated tire.

Your pipe bomb isn't going to work with our TPMS wheel sensors - they need to be in motion. Search on this site - this idea has been discussed a few different times here over the years.

Well, I sold my H1 yesterday. Weird how we get attached to our trucks sometimes. I definitely have a bit of the "No truck blues" today

So, anyways: I'm naturally even more so thinking about a nice new PW and have thought about a few things:

The stock PW, as awesome as it is (and that's pretty awesome IMO), seems to have limited breakover and departure angles. The only "cure" I can think of, would be larger tires (35's probably) and possibly a lift.

Anyone here running 35's on the current generation PW? If so, how do you like on-road comfort & handling and off-road capability?

You can improve approach and departure with bumpers, less so in the rear but I have never drug the rear bumper. I have however had it high centered.... The truck desperately needs 35's, I think a little level in front and 37s might be the ideal set up.

I had similar feelings toward my '11 1500 Hemi. Completely worthless unless the traction control was disengaged, and t had to be done each time it went into 4wd or 2wd. At one point it was stuck in my drive way (40' long) so I took my avalanche and backed past it, turned around and made fresh tracks with no drama at all. The '11 was the most worthless vehicle I ever had. Good on fuel though.

My wife got a 2012 CTS and it has track settings which make it awesome on snow and ice. I realized computers are ok but the '11 Ram sucked. (as did my '10 Ducati; absolutely worthless). Computers, if programmed liked the CTS can work pretty well.

Well, tonight I brought home my new ride, a 2016 PW:





First order of business: Get to know all the NAV, phone integration and dash info cluster. Then:

-Install a VHF / UHF HAM Radio
-Find a roll cage / chase rack to install a few lights and for permanent install of antennas.

It's kinda funny... I think.... the truck was all splashed in mud when I test drove it. They got 95% of it cleaned off by the time I took delivery.

Check all of your hidden compartments - that's where those items are as delivered from the factory. All the compartments in the console, the two compartments under the floor in front of the back seats etc...

So far I've looked in the 2 glove boxes in front of the front passenger seat, I have looked in the center console and under the center front seat and I have looked in the in-floor storage in front of the rear seats.

Yep, checked that too. Most of it is used by the subwoofer for the Alpine sound system which BTW sounds QUITE good

Mine was under the fold flat on the driver's side. I specifically asked for it before I left the dealership though.
