I found some info under a thread titled "sway bar fix" that helped me figure mine out. Yesterday I took off the EVO manual disconnect device to have a look inside the smart bar. There is a piston in there where the washer from the EVO kit fits. The EVO kit is designed to move that piston with a spring. This "piston" or whatever you call it is what engages and disengages the sway bar, at least that's what I gathered from the other thread. Mine was completely seized up. I soaked it in WD 40 and tapped, then pounded on it for about a half hour. No luck. Solid as a rock. So I took the 5 bolts off of the smart bar housing and pryed it open about a half inch. I figured it was shot anyway so I had nothing to lose. It didn't want to come apart initially but I keept working it with a big screw driver. The housing was loaded with dirt and rust. Everything inside was seized up. Long story short...I kept working it, spraying with penetrating oil, tapping, prying, spraying and after about another 30 minutes it started to loosen up. The piston I mentioned is attached to a larger piece inside the housing so when it moves, the larger piece also moves. After everything seemed to be moving freely I pumped a little grease inside and closed it back up. Now the piston will move when you adjust the EVO device and it seems to be working. We'll see how long it lasts. I ruined the housing gasket in the process but it didn't seem to be doing anything anyway. There is a big washer inside between the two ends of the sway bar that may fall out depending how far you separate the housing but I was able to reinsert it with a pair of needle nose pliers.

I cleaned mine, added a little grease and used RVT on the seal to keep the gunk out, seems to be working so far.

This is also a bump, BTW.

I only do what the majority of the 4 voices in my head tell me to. In most cases, I ignore two of them because one doesn't speak English, and I suspect the other is talking to someone else.
