I have never understood why they would put a magnetic switch and a heavy duty magnetic coil actuator in an environment that is... well um, contaminated with metallic sludge all the time. I can't help but think keeping the oil clean is going to be key to properly operating sludge free lockers.

So Far my Filtermag GP101 differential magnets have done an excellent job of removing the fine metal particulates from the oil. I can tell from the fact that I have minimal to no deposits of sludge on the locker magnetic sensors. I do notice that the Filtermag magnet is covered in sludge so I bought two more to increase the surface area for sludge contamination collection the next time I change my differential fluids.

I can't help but believe the pinion and axle seals will benefit as well since the metal abrasive material is being removed from the oil before it can act as an abrasive on the seals and other internal parts.

I agree there could have been better location for locker CPU. I agree that hard wire works too. Still when you turn on hard wired locker how do you actually know it engaged? You don't. It might have or might not. That is until you raise one leg in the air and find out where you have power on opposite wheel or not. But that simple act of loosing traction on one side may allow for splines to engage. Hence problem others face goes by unnoticed by ignorance not by improved function. There is no little flashing light to wary about.

I'll get one of those magnets next time I change diff lube.

Has anybody come across the factory service manual for the 4th gen 2500s yet? I have it for the 1500. Or maybe the 08 / 09? I can probably figure out the factory switch by looking at the wiring diagrams.

From the 2002-2008 FSM, had to do 3 screen captures to get the whole thing...

Thanks for posting that. I have a feeling that the factory switch won't be too easy to make work with hard wired lockers. When I get my truck back from the dealer, I will test it out & see what I can figure out. I'm thinking it might involve a custom circuit board to make things work. It's doable, but might be more hassle than it's worth. Also, the 4th gen trucks might be different than that diagram, making it more complicated. I'll do my best, but no guarantees.

figured I would put this link here too. Don't forget the whole locker action can be out of whack without the proper locker magnet cleaning and gap!

last comment, I have had my truck since 2006, I know when they are locked with or with out a light. I had a Detroit locker for 9 years....you knew when that think locked. Just saying. Once you go "Hard" (Wired) you will never go back.

OK, i am subscribed now.

We got our first taste of the white stuff on Saturday night. Was headed home as I was very disappointed because the snow was not sticking and no one needed help

Coming up on the turn that goes into my neighborhood and what do you know, a car is in the ditch :excited:

I whip around and hook up to pull them out. I throw "OX" in 4 low and hit the rear locker and what do you know :wtf: SERVE 4X4 light comes on :box:

Went outside today drove her in the grass and tried it again, same issue. Sway bar works fine, as soon as I switch to the rear locker the serve 4x4 light comes on

anyone have this issue?

I took the connectors off and cleaned them out, also added dialectric greese with no change :digahole:

Danny, we have the same year trucks......my locker wires were broke about an inch from where the locker plugs into the rear differential. It was so small i could barely see it. Check yours. The break was similar to how our rear door speaker wires break going from the b pillar to the rear door.

Thanks for the help, I remember when I brought "OX" that I had to work on the rear locker. Thanks for reminding me. The culprit was right in front of my eyes all this time.
