Just my 2 cents but I've always felt its a good idea to get out in the snow and do donuts and drifts assuming no ones too close. I'm not saying to be unsafe. I think learning how to counter steer and how much gas and braking to apply at that oh shit moment is important. So far I think the human brain is still smarter than the nanny controls and I'm unconvinced they can help me. Admittedly I have to pay attention to my driving every second, I'm not one of those people that can say wow how did I just get home, I don't even remember driving. My unconscious is a complete idiot so I scan with military precision. Now if the nanny controls start keeping us between the lines then I might go for it cause right now a pretty girl can cause me to drift off the road.

Press the button and the tires can spin to your hearts content, but as soon as you start your ever so perfectly executed slide the frikin front tires start braking and straighten the truck right out. I held the button for what seemed like 7-10 seconds but that didnt change a thing. Whats the trick?!

On a side note, i am very impressed with how the truck handles on snowy/slippery roads.
From a stop, it's a 5-second press on the button. You should hear a chime and get an "ESC off" message on the dash. In "ESC full off", the truck will chime going into and out of park as a reminder.
Is this long press supposed to work in 2wd? I haven't looked into disabling the esc much beyond just pressing the button but I don't get any warning after a long press about it. Tried a couple donuts out in Johnson valley last weekend and was disappointed. Like olyelr said, soon as I turn the whee the abs starts going nuts. Only time I get an ESC OFF message is when shifting into 4 low. My solution is. Going to be to pull the abs fuse. The damn abs is so intrusive in the dirt even with traction control "off."

"ESC full off" is only available in 4HI and 4LO. If you want to donut in 2HI you're going to have to wire a switch to disable the ESC yaw sensor.

This should be a plug and play solution? Truck thinks its in 4wd but the CAD is disengaged.

As much as I dont want to cut into wiring in my 50K truck, I am just about ready for this. Was one of my favorite upgrades to my JK. I am just woried about (not) getting the correct wire... or any other possible other issues.

Another good thing about cutting the yaw sensor (at least in my JK), was it disabled the ABS. I cant believe how intrusive that shit is with this truck in 4-low.

I dont mind the traction control and abs and sensors and all that stuff on the street. Hasnt bother me a bit. Kinda like it. But when in the dirt, I want it gone.

I wonder if the old school locker bypass would do double duty here and fool the truck into thinking it was in 4 Lo to turn the ESC fully off and allow donuts in 2wd?
ACBoomer16 just did the mod, maybe he could try a frosted donut and let us know. :poke:

Oooo you might be on to something!

I would still prefer a discrete switch that shut off all the electronic nannies and abs system, though.

Had some light snow this morning. Found an empty cul de sac, went with 4hi, turned off ESC. Much better! Even did the full sideways slide down the road. ESC is definitely the issue in 2wd.

You're kidding yourself. This is like when the YJ owners tried to convince the TJ owners that YJ's were going to be a valued vintage. The fact is the Gen 4/4.5 (especially 4.5) is a better vehicle engineering and quality wise. Daimler just about ran Chrysler into the ground; quality under Daimler was absolutely terrible. It's true there were some options available in Gen 3 that are not available today but that doesn't make the engineering or quality better. One of the philosophies under Daimler was profitability increase through reduction of material and quality cost (this appeared in financials); FCA on the other hand is maximizing profits via quality control claim frequency and efficiency. FCA is intentionally building better vehicles to reduce cost...and it shows in every metric available through the supply chain. That is not to say RAM is perfect, because it has a long way to go, but 2010 and new vehicles are quantifiably better.

Perhaps there are some qualities you like about the older platform but as a user I would (and did) avoid Gen 3 like the plague. This ain't your grandpappy's Packard, technology and QC are marching on with time and nostalgia will only get you so far.

The 3G's are better off-road. You can see over the hood. No computer nannies. Shorter wheel base. Regular cab. 8ft bed. Manual shift. No MDS. No flexy rear cab mounts. Panty hook on the '05's. :poke:
