A washout, basically a 2' wide ditch, by the time the front axle dropped, it hit the lip on the other side and slammed up against the boogie bumps hard enough to make the back seat flip up and the rubber piece in the little storage spot on the dash above the radio was on the floor.

That's the part# on my invoice, I suppose the difference is my truck is a 2005. Why would it cost twice as much for essentially the same part?

I have been out of town and no contact for a few days and I just saw your new thread Will. That is a bummer. I thought i did mine also on a speed bump hump thing that was basically a curb. Think I'm all good. That pic of you're rig from the front is painful. One big ol bump straight up sounds a lot better that a 2 ft wide ditch!!!!!!!! Good luck w it. Im going to mercenary off road on my way home from work tomorrow or Tues to talk to Todd about putting my Thuren truss on. Ill ask him about your situation.

Well I got good news or bad news, the wheels turn much better today meaning whatever was rubbing has cleared itself. I feel better now about driving it until I can find the right housing, it's not leaking gear oil so hopefully the bearings are not stressed and the seals will hold on. I was thinking about pulling both axles and drive shaft, drain oil, plug the tubes to get by for now but I think it'll hold on.

FWIW, East Coast Gear Supply are the go to for axle issue's in NC. Most of their work is getting used axles, loading them with goodies and shipping them out. Cheaper than other resources I've seen.

You did ask it to run through a ditch pretty hard. I remember reading your first post about it, where you were relieved to have survived such a hard hit without major damage. I was thinking it was only a matter of time until you found what you broke. Think of the positives; you found what the limit is, and now you have an opportunity to repair/replace the axle and respect the limit, or get a trussed axle if you're not content with where the limit is.

Cheer up Will, seriously, it's not that bad. We've probably all learned a thing or two the hard way. I know I have lol. Shit I broke a trussed front axle. If an ifs rig or a regular solid axle truck without Thuren and boogies would have hit that washout it probably would have been completely fucked. You drove home after a gnarly hit. You should be proud of your girl for keeping it together like that. It sucks to need a front end when you're in the middle of building a house, and I'm sorry this happened but damn, what a beast for getting home under its own power.

Will, what you can do to keep you going until you get another axle. Put a jack under the pumkin and start jacking it up. If it looks like the wheels are starting to go back into position. Then weld your axle tubes to the pumkin. This will keep it from chewing up stuff inside the pumkin. I did this on my old '76 cheby.

I was really frustrated trying to find a new housing. It's not what happened that pissed me off, its the fact I can't secure a new housing, I know it took a hell of a hit and keeps on going. I went to buy a beater to get around Saturday and was planning on stripping this one down and shipping it off. But the truck I was looking at was a project itself so I backed out of that deal.

I want to find a new housing (the right one) and have it delivered to Don or someone to have it trussed and then shipped to me. In the mean time, If the ole girl will hold together, I'm going to go pick up the Scrambler from Georgia next week and haul it down on the trailer. Then I'll have a ride and can deal with it.

I drove it 18 miles yesterday, stopped, got under it right then and checked for hot spots. The pumpkin was barely warm and the tubes were cool. The outer ends of the pumpkin were cooler than the middle so either the splines have already cleared themselves or something because it felt fine and didn't lead me to believe anything is in a bind. Friday afternoon, when I jacked each wheel up, they had lots of resistance and had a scrubbing sound. Yesterday, it all spun more freely.
