Sounds reasonable. the plug does have 5 prongs in it though?

Did you have to do anything to it for it to work right Mule?

No
No no no no no
the green wire is the antenna
that just dangles
don't ground that out

I did have to add a ground wire on the solenoid pack... the previous owner hacked up a lot of stuff on the truck that i've had to unf**k, so I don't know if that was part of his "wiring job" or if there was something goofy going on with the original winch controller. TBH i'm not sure how it could have worked without that wire, so I assumed it was something the previous owner broke.
Think it was the brown wire that connects to the coil of all 4 relays in the pack I had to tie to chassis ground, then everything worked.
Relays in the wireless receiver (or switches in the wired one) switch +12 to a pair of solenoids on the winch. Without a ground on those solenoids, that 12v has nowhere to go and nothing happens...

I still have no idea what the box is on the back of the winch. :wtf:

Mule that small box is the over voltage protection module. Dodge had warn put those on the truck per their spec... When voltage on the truck reaches below threshold it turns off the winch until proper voltage is reached again.

I believe it is actually called a LVI = (Low Voltage Interupt ). Meaning- if the voltage dips below a certain point, it shuts down. They (3rd Gens anyways) also have a TPS = (Thermal Protection Switch/Shutdown). There was an easy $1.99 NAPA plug that allowed you to bypass this switch on 3rd Gens. If you even look at ours too hard, it would shutdown LOL  , hence the reason for the TPS bypass.

Yep that's what it's called LOL Forgot the fancy name for it haha and yes the Thermal Protection over ride is a must!! I did it on the control module when I replaced my winch motor with a normal warn unit.

I had forgotten that I also ran a redundant ground. While using the wired remote I was having intermittent issues with the winch not working in either direction, (I hadn't yet gotten the wireless yet). I tried the thermal bypass but it was still having issues. I tried the redundant ground and problem solved. I later picked up the wireless and it just worked. I now have the Warn remote as I ran over the remote from harbor freight and the Warn one was on sale at Amazon ($59 I think). I hoped it would have longer range and better battery life but it is about the same. Seems every time I go to use it the batteries need replaced and I'm forced to use the wired remote. I admit I don't use it very often though. I only have used it to move boulders and yank out trees and such. I do like the wireless when it works though.
