Well I bit the bullet and ordered my tires today and will have them installed on Friday the 24th. I went with the Toyo Open Country A/T II in a 285/75/17. I think for me they will be the best fit. I'm here to tell you though- they aren't giving those SOB's away! 5 tires mounted and balanced for $1,500. These dang things better last- LOL!

I think you'll like them. I had them on my work truck last winter and spring and I was very happy with how they performed in the snow and mud. Only thing I don't like about them as you stated is the cost. Being that you want "75 " for the extra height, your options are limited. If they weren't $100 more per tire than the Duratracks, I might have bought them as well.
Have you purchased your tire chains yet?

I have chains for the stock size tires that I've never used. I'll have to sell those so that I can get a pinch bigger size for the new tires. However, finding tire chains this time of year is a challenge. It's going to be on my to do list for sure. I just wish somebody would have made a good A/T tire in a 35x11.50. I just didn't want to go to a 12.50 wide tire and deal with rubbing on the control arms, and I didn't want to spend another $800 or more on Thuren Control Arms. I did a lot of thinking about what size and what brand, and just went with what I felt was the best choice for me.

About time! HAHAHAHA!

I think you made the right choice, for your circumstance. Tire chains would definitely rub the stock control arms, so there's another $700+ you'd have to drop to accommodate the 35's. I hope you enjoy the new tires!

I had thought about running the stock tires to 30,000 miles but with Turkey season having started and Spring Bear around the corner, I wanted a tire with good tread depth when crawling over rocks. Plus I have some towing I have to do in the next couple of weekends, so I just figured it was time. I'm sure the BFG's would have made it to 30K with very few issues, but I wasn't willing to chance it. So at 28K these suckers are gonzo!

My guess is that you will still have slight rubbing/ contact with the chains on. Should be manageable though. Half inch chain on and it will be similar to a 12.5 wide tire

Thuren arms, stock wheels and 315x70x17 which is 12.50 wide . I rub the upper arm at full left lock (driver side rub) I haven't put chains on a vehicle since the 80's so not worried

If I didn't live in snow country I wouldn't worry either. Hell- I'd be running Thuren Arms and 37" tires if I didn't have to worry about chains. However, I have to be somewhat practical even though I hate being that way. Sometimes I just want to be a big goofy kid instead of 35 years old and reasonably responsible.

It's nice to know there's plenty of older kids still around! I told my wife a few years ago that this was as mature as I was getting, and that it's not getting any better from here!

Ha! Yeah, when I was 18 I think I was about as mature as ever. Now that I am a 33 year old fart (or wait, 32? Hell I cant remember anymore) with a few kids and a wife I think maturity is starting the downward spiral from here! Hey your only here once!

Now that I'm 40 I've decided acting like I'm 20 without kids or bills is definitely more fun. But then this thing called reality slaps my in the face. Lol! I'm crying now.

Well I got the tires installed last Friday and then by Saturday morning I was towing the family boat home. There was a little bit of road noise, but they are quieter than my stock BFG's with 28,000 miles were. These seem like they are going to be a good tire for what I'm going to need out of my truck.

No rubbing at all. I went forward and backwards at full lock in each direction and didn't hear or feel any kind of rubbing at all, which was exactly what I was hoping for.

So after all the fist wringing, what size did you end up with: the 35" in 315, or the bastard size 33.75-34" which was like 285x75 or 295 right?

Thought I had posted the size but guess not. I went with the 285/75/17 which is basically a 34x11.50. For me it was the perfect size so that I didn't have to do any suspension changes or worry about tires rubbing on control arms.

Those look good! You'll have to let us know if you end up with chain contact once you get a set. Sounds like you know about chains but I thought I'd mention anyways, the advantage of having cam locks on them so as to get them real tight and reduce the amount of chain flail.

The chains for my BFG's are cam locks. I'm curious to see if they will fit the new Toyo's so I'm going to try this weekend to throw them on just to see how close it is. If they don't then I'll just store them for a different vehicle down the road and buy new chains for the Power Wagon.

Thanks man. You probably did, I'm too lazy to scroll through the thread. That size isn't as common, right? Did you consider any other tire in that size aside from Toyo's? I'd love if Goodyear offered the Duratrac's in that size, but they skip it and go from the PW size up to 315's (true 35) last time I checked...

That size does work well. I saw that tire on a PW in AZ a few months back and it was sitting a touch higher than mine. My stockers have 25k on them and I would like to go bigger but the more I think about it I am not sure about going nuts on my bank account on suspension stuff. A few weeks back I was sure I was going to 315s but I am back on the fence now. Heck, now I want 37s  ! The cost of 5 good tires is around 1600.00 I'm guessing. Could I match that w shocks, soft coils and control arms and be done near 3?
I also saw that toyo's mt and nitto's trail mt are also offered in 285 75 17 that is a touch wider than the ATII. Any thoughts on either of these?
Sorry I am all over the map here. But I am so confused!!!!!!!!!!!

Thought I had posted the size but guess not. I went with the 285/75/17 which is basically a 34x11.50. For me it was the perfect size so that I didn't have to do any suspension changes or worry about tires rubbing on control arms.

Honestly I didn't look at many other tires besides Toyo. I've ran Toyo's in the past, and with the fact that Les Schwab is about everywhere I travel, the Toyo was the best tire choice for me.
