I just wonder about ride quality with the AEV Ram. I have ridden in the AEV Ram w/ 40's and it rode like a tank. I just don't want to mess with my ride quality, which makes me think Thuren Control Arms and 35's are the way to go. However, the devil in me wants 37's. I'm such a little kid- LOL!

Yup, these trucks SERIOUSLY need ground clearance under the pumpkins & the body for serious off-road use.

If you want to run chains, you may need a different rim w/less backspaceing, & i dont see how a 1" lift is such a bad thing. Front coils- $440+ shipping, Lift shackle- $260+ shipping.

I'm not sure if everyone's aware or not, but the AEV suspension offered for the Ram is designed specifically for 2014+ only. They will not be offering their suspension packages for 2013's or older. This was the information I received from the AEV guys at the Overland Expo. Only the rims, fenders, and bumper will fit 4th Gens thru 2013. You'd have to have a new 2014 Ram 2500+ to get their suspension. I asked if they would eventually design suspension for 2013's and below and I got a resounding NO. They seem to have no interest in moving backward.

That's because the 2014 suspension will be used for the 4G and the next 5G generation of HD Ram. With the 2014 they are getting onto the ground floor as far as production runs go. I believe everyone on here already knew about the 2014 suspension only limitation though.

NOTE: Our winch will not work on their bumper application either. This is because it spools the wrong direction with the brake being actuated for the wrong direction of drum winding.

I'm not 100% sure of that. They used my 2012 for measurements a few months ago, so I'd be surprised if the pre- 2014 models are excluded.

They flat out said they won't be designing suspension for trucks before 2014 ... Hopefully that changes.

Can't you just turn the winch around? I had to do that for my Trail Ready bumper.

Only one sure way to find out about the suspension, so I asked on the AEV forum. All we have to do is wait for an answer.

They said at the last SEMA show, they have no plans to ever do a suspension for any older Ram trucks (Pre 2014). They said bumpers and flairs will fit even a 1500 with the new body style. But it will look funny with 37" tires in the big openings those fairs provide, or so he thought.

Well if you're right about the AEV suspension that will save me a lot of money. At that point I'll just order my Thuren Arms and 35" tires and call it good.

Here's from Dave at AEV- man I hate being wrong: http://forum.aev-conversions.com/showpo ... tcount=237

Correct, currently working on the "new" radius arm suspension only. So thats 2013.5 3500 and 2014 2500 only. There would be good reason to go backwards, but we'll see what our bandwidth can handle.

Pretty much that's exactly how I feel, but I'm not wanting to say that on the AEV Forum. I'm hoping that maybe they will get the hint, but at this point I'm just going to move on. I'll wait until January or so next year and probably order some Thuren Control Arms so that I can put 35's under my truck when my truck hit's 30,000 miles around April or so. I'm going to watch and see what the Backwoods Bumpers Power Wagon bumper looks like when it's done as I feel like it would be lame to run AEV parts when I can't have the suspension. What really chaps my ass is they had my truck for a day a few months ago to do measurements, but I wonder what was the point when they weren't going to offer products for our year of vehicle?

I let them know on their forum. It's bullshit they lead us to believe that they're busy making all of these products for us, only to find out we aren't getting shit for suspension (THE ONLY THING I WANTED!). All the hype/excitement building up over the products, just to get screwed. Thank you, AEV........

I'm trying to provide the gentle approach right now. Considering I live in Missoula where the AEV Ram spends most of it's time, I'm hoping that maybe I can politely push them to support our vehicles. Calling them butt heads on their forum won't help us, even thought we want to scream at them- LOL!

You shouldn't have had to bring it up, AEV should have from the start. Hell- they had my truck for a day for measurements! I sent an email to Kent with AEV as he's been pretty good at getting back to me and maybe he can shed some more light on the subject. Maybe it's something they will do once they get the 2014 setup kinks worked out. I remain optimistic, but I feel a little jaded at this point.

I think I've posted my last comment on that forum. I have no need for a bumper, or wheels, so those don't really appeal to me. I'm with you, having their products on your truck, with no suspension, just doesn't seem right. I'm just.............disappointed. That is all.

I spoke to a few guys from AEV at SEMA and it seems that there are a few reasons that they aren't doing suspension for the older trucks. The first being that the new suspension allows them to do what they wanted with the truck without a lot of geometry changes. The second is that there are so many other companies that already have the 94-12 suspension setups dialed in that they couldn't really bring anything new to the table. I'm not really sure why most guys would be interested in what they might come up with for the older trucks in the first place. The suspension that they came up with for the '14+ trucks is pretty much coils spacers and some drop brackets.

I was excited to see what they'd come up with because they're VERY WELL respected in the Jeep crowd. Their products are usually top notch in quality and performance. Not to mention, they develop products for the "expedition" style crowd, whereas I feel that Carli/Thuren appeal more to the "go fast/desert racer" type of crowd. Seeing as how I don't take my truck off road at 80 mph, I don't feel I have any need for the top of the line (and VERY EXPENSIVE) type of suspension system.

I guess I don't have to worry about that anymore though.......................................back to the drawing board.

Well I think you miss some finer points...

While I'm a wantabe go fast desert guy I wanted an old man/woman compliant ride that articulates well wile allowing for maximum droop. I specified that I needed the ability to do/survive the awe-shit moments. Thuren delivered that in spades! I doubt AEV could even compete! When I went to the SEMA show their focus was the expedition crowd. Since then they have had to re-evaluate their assumptions and focus. To be honest I doubt their setup does anything more than allow 40" tires W/O rubbing (their goal IMHO)!

They have cool flares and a bumper that will entice all but the most hard core among us. To be honest I doubt their diesel specific plan will work out because only the most stupid consumer would consider a diesel at this junction of their diesel emissions development!

We have the low buck AEV 2.5XT lift on the Jeep. With the factory data available to them, they do a very good job tuning the suspension. It isn't quite as good as the Icon/Donahoe stuff I've had, but it's exceptional considering it's less than a grand, shocks included. I had hoped for something similar for the truck, but I got the same answers at the Expo, and that's too bad.

Quite the contrary,

Although Carli got it's start in the go fast desert world their main focus for the last 3 years or so have been on daily driver/weekend warrior/camping/etc. crowd. Hence the development of systems like the "Commuter" and "Backcountry" systems. Granted those 2 kits are only for the Diesel crowd as it makes up 90% of their sales. Over the last 5 years I have only sold a few systems to guys that actually jump their rigs or take them off road at high speeds. A majority of them are just looking for an improved ride on the road, better performance off road, and a little extra clearance. A lot of these guys use their trucks everyday in extreme environments for things like surveying and oil field exploration. So what we might call off-roading they call their daily job. Even though many think of kits like the Dominator 3.0 when they think about Carli a majority of the systems sold are the Pintop 2.5.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I'm very happy with the suspension on my Power Wagon. The ride quality is worlds ahead of what my 2004 HD Hemi with the Kore Recon Suspension was. My only gripe is the Power Wagon doesn't come with 35" tires. Now that we know AEV is out of the picture for folks like me I've settled on the Thuren Control Arms. I don't need or want to spend the money on a top of the line Carli System when all I really want is a pinch more ground clearance.
