Out of all the folks who provide suspension systems for trucks/Jeeps, this is the one I really want. I have no need to spend $5,000 on a Baja ready suspension setup with 3" shocks and limit straps. I just want a little more height, and smooth as butter drive on the road and off the road with great flex. AEV caters more to the expedition/slow crawling type crowd, which is the path I want to take the Power Wagon.
What I I told you that you could have a Baja ready suspension for about $3400? ;)

I'm 100% with you. If I thought some different control arms and some fender trimming would allow me to run 35" tires I'd even give that some thought. I've only got 21,000 miles on my BFG's so maybe by 35,000 or 40,000 miles depending on tire life I'll know what I'm going to do.

My BFG KM2s are getting close to the end of their life. I've got 41,000 miles on the truck now and when it's time to change tires, I'm going with the 315/70R17 MT/R with Kevlar. I'm going to put them on whether I get the new suspension, or not....

Hahaha, yeah I saw you had that up for sale. Truth is, I've had that type of suspension before and to be honest, I don't want the headaches of constantly maintaining the shocks again. Yeah, it performed great when hauling ass off road, but you could feel every single little bump in the road, all the way up through your spine. I want soft and smooth this go 'round, but thanks for the offer! :)

Whats wrong with the factory suspension and just new control arms?

I've wondered the same thing. If new control arms would allow 35" tires on the 4th Gen Wagon I'd give it serious thought.

I kind of want to do the same thing when I'm due for new tires. I'll have to see what you come up with. I've only got 21,000 miles on the truck, so I've got a while.

I have 315/70/17 Kelly Safaris on my truck. 2" spacer in the front (I know I know). They are great but do rub the control arms, offset ones are on my list but would just longer ones do the trick?

I ran 35"s and the only place they rubbed was the control arms and recently went up to 37"s after installing a set of Thuren control arms. Everything else is factory, no leveling kit either because it has leveled out with my top, bed slide and tools. It all depends on the tire you use and stick with the 12.5 widths and keep the factory rims.

I am running 35s with Carli control arms, springs and track bar with the factory shocks. Was going to swap them out at some point in time, but they are working fine for me now so I dont plan on changing them out any time soon .

If they rub badly, this will be my first step. I'd like to pick up some Thuren arms, but I've heard the lead time on those is pretty significant.....

Took 4 months to get my arms but it was worth the wait. Not only do you gain turning radius and clearance by moving the axle but the front end feels so much better overall. The factory arms have rubber bushings that must flex while articulated and I imagine would have some sort of forward to rearward play as well. Thuren's are a solid pivoting greasable joint with no rubber to flex. Granted my truck had 96K miles on it so the factory bushings had been used but I can tell a huge difference in the ride alone.

What size tires are you running with the Thuren Arms?

It's been a month since I've seen any comments on the AEV Forum on the Ram. One would think they would be more eager to give us more details.

Are you running an additional lift with the control arms? Any chance you can post some pictures of your setup?

No additional lift. They rub the sway bar in the front, barely touch the arms and clears everything else sitting normal. Same when flexed but barely clears when full flex, might even scratch the fender well and it's at it's closest point with the wheel straight, as soon as you turn they get further away from everything. All it has to do is clear right :)

So in theory you could run your setup with 35" tires and have basically no rubbing (or very minor)? This is both a good thing, and a bad thing for my wallet- LOL!

I ran 35's as my last set and let them rub the factory arms. You will definitely have no issues with 35's, just don't do too wide, that's where things begin to touch. I'm actually rubbing the sway bar more now. I took a couple more pictures and will get them on here in a few.

This is at full turn but it turns further when rolling, I can't hold it there and take the picture...

This is where they rub the sway bar, it's much more than the control arms....

My big thing with 35" tires is being able to clear my chains during the winter. I may have to give this some serious, serious thought! Control Arms are going to be way less than a full blown suspension.

from the story on Expedition Portal
While most aftermarket suspensions have either a gas or diesel motor spring, AEV did the research and found 37!!! factory front spring part numbers for these trucks, so it is impossible to provide the correct ride, handling and frequency tuning with only two aftermarket springs. Avoiding the "two size doesn't fit all" approach, the AEV suspension engineering team retained the factory springs, improving performance and value to the consumer.

I keep coming back to this comment, and while I hate to bring to life a thread that has kind of died, what does everybody else think about this?

I know everybodys mileage will vary, but I swapped the stock coils for a set of the Carli coils. It did give a bit of lift, but that was just a bonus. The truck definitely rides better on the carli springs then it did on the stock springs

Mine rides purty dang good right now. I think I would keep the front coils and change the leafs if I did anything. I never had an issue with axle wrap until I went to 37's, which I think has more to do with the tread pattern and psi than anything. But I can obviously reduce the psi and be fine but it wasn't an issue at all with the previous 35's...

I only do what the majority of the 4 voices in my head tell me to. In most cases, I ignore two of them because one doesn't speak English, and I suspect the other is talking to someone else.
