Possible coolant leak?

Hi everyone,

I wonder if I have a coolant leak in my truck. The liner in the hood has white crusted stains on it, pictures:





Anyone seen this before?

Symptom/Vehicle Issue: A White Build Up Exist On Under Hood Silencer Pad
Discussion: The customer may notice a white crystalized build up on the hood silencer pad. This build up is actually MAP: Mono Ammonium Hydrogen Phosphate, a fire suppressant added to the hood silencer pad. MAP is easily dissolved in water. When the hood is saturated gravity may pull some of the MAP down onto the bottom surface of the silencer pad where it crystalizes. STAR Case. The excessive chemical treatment seeping out of the hood pad does not affect its performance in any way.
To clean the silencer pad, simply use soap and water and wipe away with a towel.
Verification: After cleaning verify the white substance on the silencer pad no longer exist. If it does, environmental conditions should be considered such as road salt. Fluid leaks within the engine compartment should also be considered.

Suggestion from another forum: Water gets up between the hood liner and the hood from water running down the windshield. Especially on the passengers side, when it can't drain through the hole in cowl fast enough, it overflows under the hood and gets on top of the insulation there. It eventually soaks through and you get the white residue. If you drill out the hole a little larger, it drains faster, but it will still do it when you wash the truck or really heavy rain with the Passengers side down attitude of the truck.

Also could be road salt from following behind vehicles when the roads are really wet and salty. A great way to get all the metal stuff in the engine compartment nice and rusty if left like that for a while.

Soak the entire engine compartment and hood down with simple green, let it soak for a bit and spray it off

Very common problem with out trucks. I actually had the hood pad replaced under warranty for that same reason. The replacement doesn't seem to be doing it.

That was honestly my first thought but then again, I live in Southern California so it seemed like an unlikely thing
