Winch removal/reinstall '14 Wagon
Ok new to this forum because the other forums are not specific enough to gasser 2500's let alone wagons.
I'm trying to remove my winch and replace it, bought the truck used and the motor was all seized up going to pull it completely out to see if it can be salvaged.
My main question is has anyone posted a how to about removing and reinstalling the winch? I've searched for a while and haven't found one yet.
I'm also thinking about taking the frame out and having it powdercoated while the winch is out. I know it's just a couple bolts but I like to have a reference before it get into a mess.
thanks in advance

Won't be much help but get a good floor jack. I think it weights about 125+ pounds.

It can probably be repaired. Take lots of pictures before, during disassembly.

Our winches (we believe) are derated M15000, built to Dodge/Ram specs, with reverse rotation drums, LVI- low voltage interrupt circuitry and TPS- thermal protection switch. The specs are the same as the M15000, not the M12000. We have 90' of 7/16" wire rope. We think Dodge/Ram just derated it for liability reasons.
Hope this helps you.
The dealer will not replace winch parts. If it don't work, they will say you need a new winch. Many times, it can be repaired by you. Winch solenoids are a common failure, as are the TPS. There is a bypass for the TPS, but i think it has to be done before it fails.

Re: Winch removal/reinstall '14 Wagon
Shouldn't be complicated. Remove electrical wires. Then decide if it is easier to remove the entire winch/bracket assembly or if you want to pull the winch and then the bracket. The bracket is a lot of weight but might make removal easier. A transmission jack would make this easy as pie. Otherwise you could make simple wood cribbing and use a jack to lower it. Cut 2x4's or 4x4's to 10" lengths or so and build them up Lincoln-log style, lower the winch into two sets of these and slowly lift up, remove a layer, lower down, repeat for other side.
Like Twin said, take lots of pictures. You have a motor on one side, a planetary gearbox with three ring gear sets (I believe) and a brake drum in the center. Take pics. Reference either a Warn M15 or M12 manual for service. Make sure to replace your deals with new ones just so you don't kick yourself later (really not a big deal though). Grease the gears. NOT THE BRAKE DRUM.

If I'm not mistaken 4th Gen trucks have a standard rotation winch.
AEV has a good set of disassembly instructions with their bumper. The PW winch cradle comes out when you remove the compatability brackets.

Re: Winch removal/reinstall '14 Wagon
Step 1 call a friend, get beers
Step 2 remove hook, rollers and unhook battery wires
Step 3 position a floor jack under it and your choice of lumber between the jack pad and the winch underside i use a 4x4 about 12-16" long has to be long enough to span the drum then bring up the jack and line everything up snug but not tight
Step 4 remove the 4 18mm bolts that hold the winch upin position, accessed thru the rollers opening. Need a wrench for 2 of them, socket with a medium-long extension will do fine for the 2 others.
Step 5 winch is now free carefully lower it while maintaining balance and ensuring the power cables sre following and not getting snagged somewhere. This is where your friend needs to take a break from drinking your beer and earn it. Pull jack out from under truck and there it is ready for you and friend to pick up and take to work bench
Craddle is held on the truck with an angle bracket on each frame rail 2 bolts on each side thru the top, self explanatory when you will be staring at it. I painted mine with black brush on Rustoleum type paint.
Your mileage may vary, ive never removed a 4th gens winch but cant see it being that much different
