The engine swap is done. It was a total gong-show from start-to-finish but it's done! Finally got the truck back on December 16th.

Hmmmm.... I would like to have this!!! (seems the most powerful of the direct swap NA engine options):
http://www.shophemi.com/p-1167-arringto ... block.aspx

Yes, a 392 block would be better (thicker cylinder walls) but, this seems the most direct swap and I think could use my 5.7 as a core to cut cost a little, IDK. It's never going to happen but, I can dream, can't I? LOL!

They used to have a complete 6.7L that was a almost complete bolt-in for replacing a 5.7 in trucks. Think it was around $10,000.

With the aftermarket support for the 5.7 I wouldn't even consider a 6.4 swap. You can build a a monster 5.7 and then get all the programming support in the world for it, try it with a 6.4 and wait for the disappointment to sink in. The one major advantage the 3rd and early 4th gen trucks has is engine and programming aftermarket support.

I was just saying the 6.4 block since it opens up the capability to go to 7+ liters without the cylinder walls getting too thin.

I think a 410 based off the 5.7L would be about right for my truck though, LOL! :cash:

That would be awesome!!!! This one appears to be a bolt in long block. I'd never be able to afford it but, it would be SICK!!!!

It was a while ago but I said I'd try to let you know about any difficulties, etc. A 6.1 is not technically a difficult swap. The blocks are the same exterior dimensions as the 5.7 and they bolt right up to the engine mounts, transmission, etc. You can use 6.1 or 5.7 heads although I hear there are difficulties if you try to use the 5.7 Eagle heads. All 2003 to 2008 5.7 heads are the same but I learned that you can put the heads on the wrong bank of the engine and they will bolt up. You won't notice they are incorrect till you go to install your exhaust. I used ported/polished 5.7 heads with 6.1 pushrods. It was also stressed to me that I had to use 5.7 head gaskets (as part of the "learning experience" I had with heads on the wrong banks, beware that OEM 5.7 gaskets do not come with a bore size other than stock and therefore will intrude into the bore of the 6.1:( No it wasn't me who did these things. If you go with a long-block you WILL probably end up paying for a lot of new parts to be added to the accessory cover, intake manifold install, etc. and it all takes time and adds significantly to the cost so sometimes a complete engine seems expensive but may not be all that much more by the time you are done. The absolutely cheapest swap would have been a remanufactured 5.7 installed complete with warranty. Used engines around here were generally high mileage with high prices.

Read this regarding the 6.4 cylinder heads.

http://forum.powerwagonregistry.org/vie ... f=2&t=4565

You'd need to figure out what the minimum bore is that can be used with the large valves among all the accessory stuff. I would presume the valve train isn't drastically different nor the exhaust ports given the long tube headers available don'e seem to be different for 5.7 and 6.4 hemi 2500s. I suggest calling the group in the link posted. Those cylinder heads have a shit load of potential.

I had to put a motor in mine and I put a 5.7 out of a 06 1500 and it worked fine only thing I had to do was swap the wires around on the plugs for the crank sensor. Also dealing with MDS if it's left unplugged it defaults to 8 cylinder mode. Do not take the the solenoids out for it I tried it and it makes it run on 4 cylinders lol
