The ram man inc. free spin kit
The ram man inc. free spin kit
I've found a free spin kit from the ram man for sale and was wondering if anyone has this setup or knows someone who does. I'm under the impression that it uses a modified f250 hub and bearing. Seems legit, but it is still a unit bearing. Any information/opinions would be appreciated.

Re: The ram man inc. free spin kit
There is no way I would pay that kind of money to put unit bearings back on. The Dynatrac kit is the same price, and is completely rebuildable. Just my opinion, but I HATE unit bearings. But I am old school, and have a dinosaur 3rd gen. With Dynatrac hubs. And I love them.

It's a pretty good deal. I can get one for $900 cheaper than dynatrac. What's the cost of replacing factory bearings?

I must have looked at something else, because the price I saw was 1700. Factory bearings are around 100, but the problem with unit bearings is if they go out on the road, you need a tow. Easier to carry spare parts with traditional bearings. But again, I like old tech. 800 bucks seems like it could be chinese crap, but I have no idea.ggbull wrote:It's a pretty good deal. Wouldn't you need a tow if any type of wheel bearing failed? With the exception of carrying extra parts. It's a deal because it was bought and not installed so it is being liquidated. They are factory ford hubs, that are timken, that have ram bolt pattern drilled. I haven't heard of to many ford bearings failing, just there vac hub for auto 4wd. I've seen on cummins forums of guys making there own free spin from a scrap yard.

Re: The ram man inc. free spin kit
True. I just never liked parts that are not rebuildable. Regular bearings can last the life of a vehicle with maintenance on a regular basis. And it is easy and cheap. I had my truck 6 months and had to change out unit bearings. On a truck with 80000 miles, it sucked to do. I am just trying to play devils advocate, it may be a good deal, but it may be that cheap because it is just that... cheap. A few people here have Dynatrac, I do, and I was told by a very good driveline shop to go Dynatrac after I asked about Yukon kits. Cheaper is not always better. Besides, Ford parts? My truck would revoltggbull wrote:Wouldn't you need a tow if any type of wheel bearing failed? With the exception of carrying extra parts. I don't like the idea of ford parts either. I am going to inspect the parts in person this weekend. Cheaper is not always better but some stuff is blatantly overpriced. I do appreciate your opinions and definitely agree with what your saying. The seller has told me he has ran dynatracs and has had multiple failures. I take that with a grain of salt. The ram man inc is all about pulling the abs sensor and then greasing the unit bearing. What are your opinions about this?

Re: The ram man inc. free spin kit
Pulling ABS and greasing is what I just did on my truck. I would be iffy on it, but there is a topic on this on Dodge Trucks Xtreme and Radio, Aaron and I think Sage all said it was good to go. As in Aaron even said he noticed real world changes in his bearings by greasing through the ABS port and could see some grease seeing past the bearing seal.
I would personally not spend the money on the dynatrac Kit for my bearings. If I did I would do it just to save my front driveshaft. I would suggest carrying a spare bearing and just greasing yours through the ABS port. And I hear to buy SKF instead of Timken, Timkens are said not to last. The cool part about unit bearings is that they are an easy trail fix, kind of. If you can get the axle nut off.

Re: The ram man inc. free spin kit
I have the Dynatrac kit, and never have looked back. Every 2 years. Take the hubs apart, and repack the bearing. I can get replacement bearings a lot cheaper then unit bearings, plus they are easier to replace.

When I did my unit bearing to Dynatrac swap. I had to remove the steering knuckles and beat out my unit bearings.DamageWagon wrote:Pulling ABS and greasing is what I just did on my truck. Re: The ram man inc. free spin kit
I do like the fact that the ram man hubs are short. The locking hub fits underneath the factory hub cap. I may have to buy it just to try. I can always go back to stock.

Re: The ram man inc. free spin kit
Short hubs would be nice. Mine stick out about 3 feet on either side. I going to put spears on them so I can shred Priuses. As far as Dynatrac failures, I don't know, but I was extremely impressed by the craftsmanship. It was like art.

If you are good with a drill, you can also do this to your stock bearings : http://www.dodgetalk.com/forums/showpos ... ostcount=1
