Power wagon front axle into 3500

Post by Nick » Tue Nov 15, 2016 12:27 am

I've read a bunch about people on here hardwiring their lockers..
So I'm guessing it wouldn't be that big of a stretch for me to do the same if I were to swap a 2014+ power wagon axle into my 2014 ram 3500??
I'm pretty sure both have the Central axle disconnect and that should just plug in..
As for the locker in the front I'm hoping I can just put power from my #3 outfitter switch to the power and then ground the negitive on the locker..
Should work?
Oh and put 4.10s in the rear axle..

Lots of people tell me that it's probably easier to put 4.10s and a locker into my axle..but the gear place is quoting me 10 hours just to swap the gear set in the front.. plus the cost of the gear set, bushing kit and plus the cost of the locker..

I know some people in the wrecker business and I can get an axle swap done for 3 hours labour and they'll buy mine..

Anyone see any other issues I'm not?

Find a new shop to give you a quote. Front and rear should only be 8.6 hours

And how long would you have to wait around for a wrecked '14+ power wagon that has a good front axle?

You can certainly get the locker to work with some electronic magic.

There's two good complete front axles in the area..

There's a 3rd one at the wrecker auction next week... I might just buy that one, take what I need and dump it at my dads buddy's wrecker for a little less then I'll pay.
and a 4th one that I don't know who has it but I saw pictures and the guts should still be ok. But the axle looks bent.

Other issues.. there's only 1 place in the area that reputable enough to do the gear sets.. and they set the prices..
Depending on what I can get the axle for it will be cheaper then all new parts and labour.

I swapped a PW axle into a regular 2500 few years back I wired tbe locker to a toggle switch, wasn't too hard. You only use 2 of the 4 wires coming out of dif. This way you can use the locker anytime. Debating doing this to my PW. .......

Plug and play aside from wiring the locker. The advantage is no drilling into the housing to run wiring or air lines.
