Post by jseal5757 » Sun Oct 16, 2016 10:26 pm

what is everyone getting for gains from exhaust, intake, and a tune? also is there any headers that add power other then american racing. something that is more affordable.

i want to do a cold air intake, catback exhaust and hemi fever tune. this will be done when i order my thuren suspesion kit and my bumpers.
the truck is a 2014 6.4

Look up theviking on Ramforum. He did headers, full exhaust, tune, intake, and 2600 RPM stall converter. He said the dyno was approximately +40whp in addition to better engine characteristics.

On my 2016 I've done the mufflex magnaflow muffler swap (very happy) and the K&N CAI which I removed within a few days. The truck really needs to be retuned to take advantage of the increase airflow from the CAI. It felt like there was loss of throttle response. Not worth the few extra hp in my opinion.

My '05 has an Injen CAI, Banks Monster Exhaust, MagnaFlow Y-pipe, and an Edge Insight tuner. The CAI and exhaust were nice but not major improvements. The biggest difference was the tuner, which came a few years after all the other stuff. Throttle response improved noticeably, power was up a bit, but the biggest change was the transmission calibration. There are mountains along I-8 between San Diego and Yuma that the truck used to labor on but now cruises up nicely. The Injen CAI on the PW is a lot quieter than the K&N I have on the GMC. My Edge tuner is the CARB version because no one else would ship one of their non-CARB tuners into CA, so there are some compromises in performance because of the state enviro-goons, but still a big improvement without resorting to the 91-tune. I have had a Diablo Predator for years and could never get it to work on my truck.

With the 5 gens you have to purchase an 'unlocked' ecu which I'm not ready to shell out $1000 for just yet :o

If anyone is interested in a very lightly used K&N CAI I'm ready to sell it. I even purchased a blue Amsoil dry cone filter for it ($80) which fits perfectly (no oiling 100k filter).

For my 05' pw I had headers, cat back, Cai, and a tuner. Wasn't worth the minimal hp increase for the amount of cash I shelled out. A super charger is your best bet for the amount of hp increase.

The factory intake is essentially a cold air intake. I tried some aftermarket intakes and only gained a bunch of throttle noise. You'd be money ahead do to just a good tune and muffler swap only if you want the sound. My 2010 5.7 is still bone stock other than a hemifever tune and if the bed is empty it will chirp the 37's hitting second, 0-60 is less than 7 seconds and run 125mph on top end. Nice and quiet with plenty of grunt. Like mentioned above, its more about the transmission shift points and full rpm range throttle response that wake it up than added rear wheel overall HP.

I only do what the majority of the 4 voices in my head tell me to. In most cases, I ignore two of them because one doesn't speak English, and I suspect the other is talking to someone else.
