Got tires balanced, again, what a difference

Post by PowerWagonP » Fri Oct 14, 2016 10:26 pm

I've had a bad shake/shutter for too long. Redid swaybar bushings/end links, tracbar bushings, new longer control arms, steering box stabilizer steering bracket and some other crap. shake/shutter was still there. Had tires rebalanced few months ago and still was there. Brought it in again last week to Discount Tire with lifetime balancing/rotations and finally got it right. What a difference. I thought it was ball joints for sure. Actually rides fairly nice. Just unclogged sunroof drains as well so no more leaks and flushed heater core and have heat again. Actually like my truck again, been awhile. Now time to go beat on it......

20+ years ago, I went through a nightmare with W-Mart over tire balance. They had some new state of the art computerized machine & swore there was nothing wrong with it. I commented that computers are only as good as the people who program them. Long story short: their machine was miss calibrated from the factory. After the new program was installed, no more problems. But how many customers suffered as a result ?

A buddy of mine uses balance beads, have you guys tried those? Pretty awesome concept.

I use them and like them, do my own rotations and don't need balancing. They also seem to do well when a little mud/snow gets in the wheels and actively counterbalance the heavy spots. BUT they do weird things in high speed turns, like freeway interchanges. They temporarily are thrown off center and shake a little until the turn lessens and then smooth right out. Kind of strange but I've gotten used to it.
