Well WTF do I do now?
Well WTF do I do now?
2015 Power Wagon, love it. One of the few trucks I actually like enough to keep longer than a year or two.
Then, BANG! Throws a Malfunction indicator light. Take it in to the dealer, 57 codes. They start changing modules at random per the advice of Chrysler Engineering and Tech Support, down to 31 codes. 2 weeks later, 13 codes. Now, who knows. I'm out at work and its throwing dings and parksesne lights and tire pressure lights warning every 20 miles. No other driving symptoms at all yet, just the lights and bells. 40,000km on it, 18 months old.
YAY!
No lemon laws here in Canada and this is my oilfield work truck (geological consultant). Not sure what to do. I'm kind of pooched, can't give up the truck to them for weeks on end because they won't rent me one with a cap for my work gear, so I might just have to buy a loaner until they get mine fixed, or they decide to buy it back and sell me a new one, which I don't really wanna do either.
WTF OVER!!!!!! End rant. Love the truck, this CANBUS computer gremlin pisses me off.

Re: Well WTF do I do now?
So , even with all the codes, it drives like normal?
What about lockers, sway bar?
Has any service been done to it recently?
I will take some wild guesses just for fun.
Loose or broken ground wire somewhere.
Alternator putting out distorted ac type power.
Computer problem.
Good news it will be a warranty issue/fix.

What did the dealer tell you to do from this point? It's still under warranty I assume so they are on the hook to fix it.

Re: Well WTF do I do now?
Not likely going to go and buy a 2012. Sorry for that.
They are going to keep trying to fix it, problem is I'm on the hook for $140 a day rental fee while I'm at work (remote northern Alberta). SO if I'm gone for 25 days, it ads up fast.
They'll rent me a "car" but that doesn't help me out. As it is, I'm driving it against their advice because I have to work. They might not get it for the 3-4 weeks they think they'll need it to get it fixed. Makes me angry just thinking about it.

Drives normal. No issues yet. That being said, even if they think they fix it, they'll never know for sure right. Damn computers.flattire wrote:So , even with all the codes, it drives like normal?

I think its a loose wire too, actually I think its under the front seat. But they don't accept that.

Re: Well WTF do I do now?
Not that the systems are the same as the 3gen power wagons... But I remember reading about this same issue back around 2006 or 2007. A guy on dodge talk was mad as he'll as his truck was throwing ever code in the book, but the dealer could not find anything wrong. Long story short... They replaced the wiring harness from the PCM and all problems solved.
They found a short in the harness once it was replaced and one of the mechanics decided to tare apart the harness.
Good luck brother... Those issues are very hard to chase and even harder to find.

Re: Well WTF do I do now?
Sorry to hear this. Given that there's no actual mechanical issues, pretty safe to assume it's a faulty electrical system component in a main bus, bad sensor, or a wiring issue. Tough to track. The worst kind of problem for a dealer to fix too...they get shafted on warranty work & worse on diagnosis time. I'd call corporate & raise hell about work situation & politely demand they give you a 2500 tradesman loaner so you can work, else if you don't work, you'll default on the loan, & they'll get stuck with the truck regardless. Good luck.

Re: Well WTF do I do now?
Yeah, I feel for ya. I went through this with our 08' & my dealer. Different issues though. Mine was still under warranty as well. They did nothing for me. I ended up rebuilding the whole front end myself ($5000+), while it was under warranty. My dealer was no help. As far as your issue, could be something as simple as a plug not pushed in tight or as complicated as a wire/s being crushed when they were installing something else, or as simple as cheap wire that broke. I have fixed the wires on my d-side rear door 2 x & they are broke again now. no power door lock, no music to speaker & no power window.

Re: Well WTF do I do now?
If you can raise enough stink with corporate to get a loaner 2500, what about just buying a used cap to put on it short term, then selling it when you turn the truck back in? You probably wouldn't take too much of a hit flipping a used truck cap, and your tools would be safe.

Re: Well WTF do I do now?
Well a few weeks alter and no help. Chrysler basically bowed out and left me hanging, Ford and Toyota stepped up and offered trade deals 10K or better than Chrysler did to replace my PW.
As it is, I'm losing my shirt on it if I trade it in (as expected, its too new).
So I'm going to buy a used Jeep Rubicon and drive it for a fe months while Chrysler tries to fix mine. Yup. I'm buying a Jeep for less than I'll lose trading in. Thanks Chrysler.
Anyways, hopefully they can fix the issue within a few months and I'll end up with a second toy to take the kids wheeling and camping in.

Re: Well WTF do I do now?
And what's weird to me anyway. Every time I've had warranty work done and it's been over a day they give me a loaner. Especially if it's a $50k plus truck that's only a year old.

Re: Well WTF do I do now?
Not a bad back-up plan, but I'd continue to pester the shit out of Corporate with well thought out and well worded emails about the whole situation. It couldn't hurt, it worked for me years ago. Good Luck.Backwoods wrote:Well a few weeks alter and no help. Re: Well WTF do I do now?
MY problem is the rental they offered is a 2wd pickup. And on this job I've been out for 3 weeks already, and they won't pay for insurance, etc. I need a 4x4 and a truck for work. No way around that.Jeff50316 wrote:And what's weird to me anyway. Every time I've had warranty work done and it's been over a day they give me a loaner. Hence the backup vehicle I guess. I'll keep bugging them anyways, I think thats all I can do at this point.

WTF is up with F'emCAnada??? You're not the first hose job they've pulled this on. I'd be firm / borderline agitated with them daily till you get the outcome you want, which is consequently, also the minimum decent thing to do for you. What shitbags run that Canadian division of Dodge/Ram, wow

Our current government is not any better than either of your two choices. Just had federal election while ago and we went from a have country to a have not but gonna spend a bunch of money we don't have and make life a living hell for the hard working citizens. Want to see politics that don't work? Look at how our federal election went

Re: Well WTF do I do now?
I had a 2004 ram 1500 before my PW. I was driving down road and then bam!!!! MIL on, bell singing, no turnsignals, dome light came on , brake lights and turn signals quit, random warning and indicator lights came on and a few other electrical oddities as I drove. No performance issue. Turned out there was some kind of failure in the instrument cluster. $975 later took to dealer, they sent cluster out and had it rebuilt or what ever they do with them and all better. Of course this was in 2006 so I'm sure price went up. Your situation sounds similar. Good luck.
Re: Well WTF do I do now?
That really sucks, I'm sorry. My $.02, my 2015 kept giving me a transmission overheat warning at random temps. They replaced sensors, oil, guage cluster, could hardly replicate the problem because it was so intermittent. Dealer wound up asking FCA to send someone down to check it out. That guy had them finally replace the whole PCM and that fixed it.
Canada may not have Lemon laws, but Chrysler dealers should have an order of operations for mystery problems. My dealer told me if their service techs or lead techs couldn't figure it out, then they had to escalate and ask Chrysler HQ for assistance. Idk, just spitballing here.

Sounds like some part of the wiring harness was damaged during assembly maybe, or the computer is fu****.
