upper control arm bolt installation
upper control arm bolt installation
I noticed the dealer put my upper control arm bolts with the threads facing in and it looks like the thread part of the bolt is hitting the frame when the suspension is flexed. does anyone know which way they are supposed to go? the dealer replaced my front axle and messed just about everything up. the lower control arm bolts are both installed different with one going in and one going out but shouldn't matter because they wont hit anything.
Re: upper control arm bolt installation
The axle end upper control arm bolt should be put in with the threads facing out, otherwise it'll hit the frame as you noticed.

Re: upper control arm bolt installation
Much like how your dealer incorrectly replaced the pinion seal because they were too lazy to pull the carrier, they put the control arm bolt in backwards because they were too lazy to pull the exhaust. At this point I'd take the truck to another dealer and consider legal action against the first.jsemm wrote:I noticed the dealer put my upper control arm bolts with the threads facing in and it looks like the thread part of the bolt is hitting the frame when the suspension is flexed. does anyone know which way they are supposed to go? the dealer replaced my front axle and messed just about everything up. the lower control arm bolts are both installed different with one going in and one going out but shouldn't matter because they wont hit anything.

Why would they need to pull the exhaust? Can't I just take the bolts out and put them in the right way

Axle end or frame end? Frame end goes in from the inside of the frame.
Re: upper control arm bolt installation
I switched the upper control arm bolts around it was easy. The lower control arm bolts were loose no where near 200 ft lbs where they should be. I hope the alignment isn't off too bad because the bolts where loose where the adjustment cams are.

Re: upper control arm bolt installation
Out of curiosity, how exactly would the bolt only rub under articulation? The bolt shouldn't move at all. Or was something moving into the bolt?

Re: upper control arm bolt installation
The bolt doesn't move the whole axle moves the bolt into the frame I could see where it was rubbing, it was shiny with no rust so it just happened after the dealer f`d it up
