2014 rear dampener link?

Post by joeschmidt » Tue Jul 19, 2016 7:53 pm

I'm looking at getting thurens new pw front springs and getting a full set of the white body overlands, but what about the 5th shock/dampener on the top of the rear axle? Anyone replace that, and with what? Thanks

No, why? The new rear springs are the same height as the originals.

I wasn't doing anything with the rear springs.. Looking at putting new rear shocks on but there is a third shock mounted to the top of the gear housing called a dampener link and that's the one I wondering about. I think it's the 5th link to making the whole rear set up, a 5 link system

Uh no, five link is the four control arms plus the track bar. The dampener is just a dampener. Change your tires and shocks, then throw away the dampener. It seems to help the guys that run factory suspension and max PSI in their tires.

I'm one of the guys that added two more dampener links, which really helps with rear axle wrap / wheel hop by the way. I don't think you need to replace it just because you are replacing your other shocks. If you do replace it, be aware that it is one super super stiffly valved SOB, and the new shocks can be a real bear to get on if you don''t have the right technique.

They were quite persnickety to add, ratchet straps were a savior!

Please let us know what you think of the new spring and shock set up.

That is exactly the combo I'm considering as well.
