Vehicle Shippers

Post by John's_05PW » Thu Oct 18, 2012 3:33 am

Has anyone had any experience shipping a vehicle through one a of hundreds of companies you can find on the internet. The USAF is moving me from Texas to Utah next May and I'm looking for someone to transport my PW for me. I would drive it but I have another truck that I will be driving there.

I've shipped two, and both were damaged... Shipped my avalanche in 2005. Company was pretty good about it, got it fairly quickly and on time for what they told me. Driver told me about the damage when it arrived, he had pulled fwd to far on the truck and the front bumper rubbed the car in front of it, he had the damage report all filled out. I got an estimate and received a check quickly. Then I shipped my powerwagon when I bought it, so I hadn't seen it yet. They driver was awful, was four days late, called me every morning and said it would be that day, then that night saying no. On day four said he was close but out of hours so I drove and met him at a truck stop. Complained what a pain it was, it would only fit on the back so he had to take it on and off for every one of his deliveries. He had lost the pre inspection paperwork and there were now several dents in it that he said where there, but of coarse it was sunday at 10pm so no way to get a hold of the dealer and get a copy of pre inspection. Ended up just taking the truck. very frustrating experience.

Hope yours goes better, only thing I would say is don't necessarily go with the cheapest place...

And I don't remember the names of either company, I remember the first time was a bigger name brand company, and the second one was likely billy bobs transport single guy single truck..

Good luck.

Can'r help you with shipping, but you'll be in a prime spot to come to the 6th APWiM.

I have shipped the power wagon across the ocean three times and the challenger from S. Carolina to Missouri, then across the ocean. The Army ships the truck for me and aside from one small scratch on the first shipment, I have had no problems. (Of course the country pin striping all down the sides covers up anything new now). Had no issues with the private shipping company we used for the challenger either. I will be using them again in June to ship it back to the states.

I can second DAS. I have not used them but many many friends with military moves have with great success. I will most likely be using them in a few months for my next military move.

In that particular case it might be a little too obvious that one is grossly overloading that trailer. Any half ignorant police office would stop you most likely.

On the other hand you could tow it using tow bar. Just put t-case into Neutral.

In any case I don't see a reason why USAF wouldn't ship a truck for you. I don't think you have much to worry about.
