2015 Ladder Rack

Post by TruckBoatTruck » Mon Apr 25, 2016 9:53 am

Hey fellers.

I am looking for something much like this, maybe with an extension over the roof. I was wondering if any of y'all know who makes something similar to this.

If for ram boxes, no one. I asked the AEV guys and all their racks have been one off custom jobs so far. I have a fab guy working to build me something similar this summer for mine.

2015 Ladder Rack

With a few carefully drilled holes, the right hardware, and some ingenuity, Yakima Outdoorsman cargo racks can be made to fit the Rambox tracks. Not nearly as heavy duty as what you have pictured, but they get the job done for my kayaks.

Pretty sweet little system they have there. Dont see it available for the rambox though.

Ya seems no one has anything that would work with the Ram Box. Time to start looking for a good Fab shop in Florida. Idk if you guys have ever heard of OCF Welding on the west coast, I found him through a thread here. If I was on the west coast I would go broke paying for his work.

I don't have ramboxes myself but considering nobody makes racks for them, is it due to no structural support in the corners? It would be really easy to fab up a rack to "fit", I'm wondering if it is because there is nothing solid to attach too... if that's the case, could a hole be cored in each corner and carry the rack down to the frame somehow? Just a thought...

I only do what the majority of the 4 voices in my head tell me to. In most cases, I ignore two of them because one doesn't speak English, and I suspect the other is talking to someone else.

Nah, I think it's just the market support is so limited because Ram Boxes never became as popular as Ram thought they would. Heck there was a very small number of companies that offered tonneau covers that fit my smaller bed. There is structural support.

There are a few companies that make them

Thing is these still aren't as nice as the one off's that AEV had built. The one in the first post for example, works with the AEV tonneau cover.

I saw the aluminum one, it looks about right for what I'm looking for. Thing is I think they only make it for the 1500.

If you have the same size bed, it's the same truck body.

Exactly. The pic of the aluminum one on the half ton ram is a full size short box. Same box as the 2500. Its the 5 1/2' box offered in the half ton that would be different.

I read that only 5% of Rams came with the ram box. That's a pretty small market. I just built a tent rack for mine.

Yup, I use the heck out of mine. I love them. Not being able to add a cap doesn't bother me. It's been probably about as hard for Ram to convince people of the Ram box as it has been to get people to stop referring to them as Dodge.

I always hear the same thing, you loose so much bed space with them. But that's not really true, because they only extend the same length inward as the wheel wells.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anyways, yea not much of a market to market too.
