3rd Gen removing 6" lift and leveling ?'s

Post by adamdh1 » Thu Apr 21, 2016 1:54 pm

I have searched multiple forums and google for a few days now to find any info on replacement leveling coils for my 2007 but to no avail. I'm sure it's been asked before and I have found some info for 4th gens, but nothing on 3rds.

What I have: New to me 2007 Power Wagon with what I can tell is a 6" pieced together lift with coils, control arms, sway bar links, rear blocks, dropped pitman arm, and superlift shocks.

What I want to get to: Near stock height.

What I have found so far: From what I read since the power wagon already has around 2" of lift from the factory, the stock control arms are about maxed so I am considering keeping them; considering keeping the pitman arm; removing the blocks; brake line extenders; replacing sway bar links with stockish; and replacing shocks with Rancho RS5000's and RS5056's respectively.

My big question is what replacement coils to go with to have a leveled finished product. Are 3" coils for a Ram 2500 with the 5.7 the way to go? Also any input on my plan would be appreciated.

http://www.a-r-a.org/ is the place to start. Do a search for PW suspension parts.

I find it hard to believe there are not a few 3rd gen guys on here that dont have their stock coils laying around.

If it has a dropped pitman arm I am going to guess it has a dropped track bar bracket at the frame too. If so, I would recommend removing both if going back to stock coils. Ram steering can get to be very finicky as it is stock. Those products dont really help the situation.

Also, 3rd gen's sit pretty dang level in stock form.

If you like your spine, you may want to reconsider the Rancho 5000s. Mine had Procomps when I bought it which are the same thing, and my wife almost made me take the truck back to the dealer and get my old truck backImage
I went with Bilsteins and am reasonably happy. There are better of course.

olyelr, It does have the track bar drop bracket too. I will definitely remove it as well. Thanks for the heads up.

Vee, I've had bilstein 5100's in the past and loved them. I've never had ranchos. I think Ill go with the bilsteins. Thanks.

So it seems that I need to find some power wagon take off coils. If I don't find any, is there an aftermarket spring that will get me to the same level as stock?

Colibri, I might have to take you up on it. Where are you located?

Will I be able to run the superlift control arms at stock height or will I need to revert back to stock ones?

I'm in Texas, I'm unfamiliar with those control arms though. If they're 1/2" over stock arms you should be fine, any longer and they won't work at stock height.

I ran stock PW coils with arms that were 1/2 longer with no problems, how much longer that stock are your arms

I can't find an specs on them. I am pretty sure it's the 4" lift kit after much searching. Especially since superlift does not offer a 6" for the gassers it turns out.

From what I'm reading on the Superlift's website is. The 4" lift comes with lower control arms. The 6" lift comes with both upper and lower control arms. Doesn't say how long their control arms are. :( Measure both upper and lower control arms from bolt center to bolt center. I'll measure mine tomorrow morning. If your's is a 1/2" longer then mine for both. (6" kit?) I would say that you can still use the arms as is. Just need springs. BUT if your upper arms are the same length as mine and the bottoms are 1/2" longer. (4" kit?) You need lower arms then. When you are under the PW taking measurements. If your upper control arms are stamped U shaped steel. That's a stock arm. Another tidbit. Dodge didn't go to a tube style lower arm until '09 I believe.

RustyPW, it has tube style both upper and lower so I'm not sure if it's a pieced together kit or what. I will measure mine tomorrow too.

I have found someone locally thats willing to trade stock components off of his 2003 ram 2500 w/hemi. That should work with the exception of the power wagon coils that I will still need right? Or are there stock components that won't work on my 2007?

Which cab do you have? Regular or Quad? The Quad cab has stiffer stock springs.

So you have tube upper controls arms. That is from a kit. If the arms end up being a 1/2" longer then stock. You could leave them on and just switch springs. I'm planning on going with 1/2" longer arms and Thuren springs in June/July.

I have a Quad cab.

I measured my tubular control arms and they are 18" upper, and 19.5 lower.

I measured from the center of the bolts and from what I can find on other forums, the upper is about 1.325" and the lower is 0.81" longer than stock.

My upper's are 16.5" and lower are 18.5". Also they are a boxed rectangle. About 1"x 2.5". Not the stamped U shape. Sorry. That was on my other older truck.
