Hmm.. ok then. You know for some reason this entire time I've seen the 285/75 discussion, in my mind I've just equated that as being the stock tire size. But duh, it's not. That's an excellent point and maybe a better route. Hmm... more decisions.
Tire selection is smaller though.

35x12.5x15 BFG KO2's on Walker Evans 504 wheels. +1 offset, no rubbing anywhere except when flexed and turning full lock, the aggressive corners on the KO2 BARELY touch the rear plastic of the wheel well. Won't be a problem with another 1,000 miles of wear, I don't have the heart to take a dremel to my baby just yet. No noticeable difference in power loss or ride quality. Seems to shift more than before, which doesn't bother me too much, and the speedo is off by about 3mph at 65 according to my phone GPS. Highway mileage improved, city suffered, just as expected. Worth it.

That is on the list for sure! Any recommendations? Or are we waiting for the 6.4 tuners?

Looks great, get you a tuner and it will fix the shift points and speedo...
I put an Edge tuner on my '05 with 35s and it cleaned up the shift points nicely. I've settled on the level three tune that is supposed to be OK on 87 octane, but I normally run 89 because it's usually pretty hot when I'm using the PW. Gas mileage is about the same as before the tuner, the speedo is reprogrammed for the 35s, I have a little more torque and horsepower, and the trans does not hunt for gears nearly as much as it used to in the mountains. All in all, it's a win.
When I bought my tuner last year, Edge had just come out with their new line of tuners. The "new" part was enhanced graphics and lots of fancy colors and video game style crap on the screen, but the tunes were essentially the same. So I ordered the old model with dull graphics and saved a couple hundred bucks. The Edge also gave me a programmable gauge pod on the screen with eight parameters displayed at one time. Since I am in CA, my choice of CARB compliant tuners was pretty limited, you may have more choices. I also have a Diablo Predator that would never synch up with the truck.

Those Walker Evans look fantastic on the truck. Nice color combo choice too.

Wouldn't a 35" tire still knock your mpg down a decent bit and cause more downshifting? I want to run 35's badly but with me putting 4,500-5,000 miles a month on my truck I can't kill my current 12.4 mpg overall average.
A lot depends on WHICH 35" tire you go with. Wider, heavier, knobbier tires make for worse rolling resistance, which will reduce MPG. If you go with a mellow 35" tire (like a Yokahama AT or something) you will most likely not notice too much of difference. Go with a wide mud tire that weighs a ton, then yeah you will surely kill some MPG.
So I guess a 35" Toyo MT would be in that NOT good mpg category. I wonder how bad a 285/75r17 Toyo MT would do, I love that tire. I definitely want to go with a E rated tire due to me hauling a ton of feed in the bed several times a month.

I found on my 09 that the toyo mt in 35" dropped mpg around town but picked up some on the highway and more or less evened out in mixed driving with an overall 1-2mpg drop.

I agree, i love that size tire also. Seems to me like a perfect size for a stock truck that sees a lot of road driving. I honestly dont think you would see a big mpg hit with them but its all speculation really until you do it.

That would drop me to about 10mpg. It wouldn't take long for that gas bill to add up, guess I'll stick with stock size or only go to 285/75r17.
This truck needs bigger tires badly

I have 285/75r17 Toyo mall terrains on my 07. I have pulled as high as 15mpg if I drive like grandpa. I have hand calculated and am only .5 off the computer. I also have a tuner so I changed the speedo to match the tire size. The toyo mall crawlers still have a pretty decent lug to them, and they are VERY quiet.

These tires are designed to be wayy less noisy than the old STT's, & they are. Gotta love computers designed for that. That is the first thing everyone has said that i have talked to that is running them.

Yea for sure it looks good...
Will I blame you for my solid Mastercard hit that I am going to be paying off this month. That pic is my screen saver at school (work). But if I'm not mistaken that pic is B4 the kings. These trucks look SO rad with 37s. I get it that it could be a milage issue stock, but Wills mpg numbers with Sean's tune it seems like a push if not improvement.
