Roll over point

Post by 2011TXPowerWagon » Sun Mar 27, 2016 7:50 pm

Does anyone have any idea what the roll over angle for a stock wagon on 37's? Anyone have an inclinometer in their wagon?

I know this isn't answering your question but BOY is it true what they are talking about in the thread above: Off-camber feels WAY the hell worse form inside the truck than when you look at it from the outside

My old truck didn't flex or articulate, it just tipped until the wheel touched the ground again. I'm looking forward to learning how the PW handles off-camber

Apparently I created a username and password for dodgetalk but can't remember any of it. O well, I guess when my side mirror touches the ground, I'll know that's far enough.

I only do what the majority of the 4 voices in my head tell me to. In most cases, I ignore two of them because one doesn't speak English, and I suspect the other is talking to someone else.

I was looking at this before my trip to Moab and think it was somewhere north of 21° before you had to worry. I was on an 18° and felt safe. This was a stock wagon.

If the PW is level front to rear, but tilted to about 20 deg. to the side. You feel kind of safe. Now take that same 20 deg tilt to the side and add a 20 deg uphill or downhill tilt. It feels completely different. Throw in 3 wheels on the ground, one in the air with the same 20/20 tilt. And you feel oh shit moment coming on.

All I can say is that my power wagon has been very forgiving. knock on wood but as long as I take my time the truck seems to let me and everyone around me know when I'm at the tipping point. Granted I can't speak for the 4th gens but I do ride on 37"s with 4" long arm lift. Our long wheel base and weight usually keep our trucks planted on the trail pretty good. Make sure you go offroad with a few rednecks, it's in their instincts to stick to the correct side of a rig ready to flop! Just one 200lb redneck holding on will keep you on 3-4 wheels. In all seriousness I've never had the balls to stop and look at what angle I'm at. I'm usually secretly scared shitless and working my way out of the situation. But that's part of the fun!

This is from older off road mag article. They installed 7" skyjacker lift on Gen2 V10 Ram. Originally it sported 35" went up to 37. In original condition it was very comparable to PW I'd guess. They put it on tilt table to see how lift would affect rollover angle. Obviously it worsened but original 49 degrees is actually very good. Most average SUVs do worse than that. After lift not so good.

Loss of articulation was less expected.

Riding higher of course.

I think I would cry if I ever got close to 49°on a side hill.

I have the bubble gauges and I find anything near 30 makes me cringe. Then I get out of the truck to look at the situation before proceeding and decide it does not look near as bad as it felt when in the drivers seat. I could not even imagine what 40+ would feel like in the drivers seat!

My second gen has only ever rolled aggressively while under power. It has fallen over when in the 40+ degree range. I think the Thuren trackbar, and moving the fuel cell and 42" spare on beadlock, and rear winch, along with spares, tools, CO2 and spare fuel above the frame rails hurts it a lot. On 35"s with stock fuel tank and spare location, with 3" of lift but stock track bar, it never fell over. Even blowing 37"s off the beads on Moab Rim. (Very uncomfortable).
