Last time I looked, none of the turners work on the new trucks(yet) without buying a cracked PCM with the tuner.MitchPeder7 wrote:A tuner like the trinity Diablo sport should.joeschmidt wrote:Is there anyway to by-pass the traction control?

For 2015 and new that is still correct.waldo wrote:Last time I looked, none of the turners work on the new trucks(yet) without buying a cracked PCM with the tuner.MitchPeder7 wrote:A tuner like the trinity Diablo sport should.joeschmidt wrote:Is there anyway to by-pass the traction control?

I pretty much never wheel my truck in anything but low range (wherein it says "Traction Control off") and have never noticed it kick in in any way. I have had it not allow the truck to move at all once, when in 2wd starting from a stop with tires covered in clay mud. Mine seems a bit too aggressive on wet roads but, it never seems a safety hazard, it just is a buzzkill. (though, it can be a little disconcerting as it causes the truck to suddenly have traction in mid slide causing the truck to rock) On dry pavement, it will allow a sufficient powerslide to necessitate countersteering before it will kick in. Overall, I'd rather not have it but it hasn't proven to be enough of a nuisance to need a bypass, IMO. In what snow we've gotten down here the traction control has done fine whether 2wd or 4wd, it just kills the fun factor.
I could be wrong but, didn't 2010 and 2011 4th gens come without traction control??? (maybe a 2010 or 2011 would be a good choice for you snowsled?) I thought it was mandated in 2012+
The CAD is the main reason why I will not ever trade mine for a 13+, what idiot thought it was a good idea to install a failure prone system like that?!?!![]()
Only if someone comes out with a CAD elimination kit would I consider a trade. Even then, I would get a 3500 and build it to be like a PW as I am not enamored with the coil sprung rearend of the 2500s.
As for the throttle by wire, maybe something is different with the 6.4??? I have only had difficulty with it twice. Both times it has felt like the truck was dying on a steep incline whilst offroad. Makes it feel like it is not getting any gas.(sputtering) I wheel the truck a lot so, only twice really is not bad at all. Other than that, I honestly can't say it acts any differently than a mechanical setup. (better than some I've driven!)
nts007 wrote:Didn't you have a pw before? Winch protection has always been installed. No newer truck will come without the things you're upset about. And I understand fully. Auto tranny. Well manual is either real special order or pure luck used. Drive by wire? It's been round since 04 in the cummins. My 06 wagon had it and it wasn't that bad. But it did engine brake. I could go down a long grade in 4 low 1st and it would hold back. No brakes just engine. Traction control. Yea. Well. The axle disconnect. I don't see why it cant be eliminated eventually.
Now here's what I'm getting at. In 5 years when payments are done. And warranty is off (or sooner) you have to start paying for stuff. At that point we (us) would be upgrading and modifying the truck for (our) specific needs. The pw is and always has been a great platform. Starting platform. It has been overly capable compared to any other off road package offered that comes with warranty. So why would you want to sell this one. Cause in 5 years I guarantee that the minor Nannys that bother you now will be nothing like what will be installed in 5 years. How about a off roadable 3/4 ton truck with a 6.4 hemi that STOPS!! By itself when it thinks you gonna have a collision with the rock you are gonna climb over.
It's only getting worse. Personally I would keep the truck and slowly figure out how to de dumb-fuck it over a couple years. Mechanically you still have a extremely tough truck.
My opinion obviously and like i said. I really do understand.
nts007 wrote:I can't see overheating the brakes like this. Compared to slowing down 8k lbs of truck plus 18k lbs on a trailer (brakes are the same as diesels) holding the truck at .3-2mph should be able to go indefinantly
I did that, ... for about three decades. Always had a heavy duty diesel truck that sat in the driveway all the time except for heavy hauling and towing, and had a well set up short wheelbase Jeep (SUV) for me to drive as a daily driver and go exploring in, and a Jeep Grand Cherokee (car) for the wife, and for luxury and passenger carrying ability. Over the decades as diesel trucks got more and more expensive I became tired of seeing that great big chunk of money sitting in the driveway, and for most of the time doing nothing. I sold the Jeep and the diesel truck, and bought a Power Wagon. It works great for me, and does just fine for double duty at less than half the price.Snowsled wrote:I will switch to having three vehicles instead of two, car, suv, truck instead of a car and a truck. That way each one can be more focused for its use. I will be giving up lots of speed, some comfort but gaining capability and durability. Which will suit my truck needs better. Luxury and passenger carrying ability will be handled by the other two vehicles instead of trying to double duty with the PW.

In any case, good luck with whatever you come up with. You've got to do what works for you.
You don't have to buy new... There are plenty great vehicles on the used market. In this Internet age it's easy to search for exactly what you want online.Snowsled wrote: ...
For me, the truck will not sit much. My '15 PW is just shy of 15k miles already after buying it this past summer. My wife will run the car in the summer and the suv in the winter keeping miles down so we can stave off buying something newer with all of the features I despise again.
