Re: Brake Pads

So I changed my brake pads out to ebc yellow stuffs. I'm at 97,000km and I still coulda have gone another 20,000km probably but I was having issues stopping the 37" Toyos offroad and on the street and the pedal feel of a dodge even when brand new is not great. I believe the factory pads have no ceramic in them? Their basically just made to last apperantly and they don't work all that well with a 150lb tire combo rolling at free way speeds. Also I should mention I had three slide pins seized/ starting to seize... I really hate the way dodge does their brakes with a steal on steal pin design relying only on lubricant and the shitty little booties covering them... Canadian weather clearly gets to them quickly and dries them out combined with towing or hauling and high heat brakes they literally weld themselves with rust into the caliper bridges. Anyways back to brake pads!!! Wow! Love the ebc's so far. Pedal feel
Is instantaneous and braking grab is pretty insane. I have just over 100 miles on them so the bed in compound is probably still present which is gra bier then the brakes normally Apperantly however they are impressive!!! I don't care if they were twice the price of stockers their worth every extra penny so far. If they do only last 30,000miles I will get another set cause I do really like the German car brake feeling. Being a BMW technician I am always surrounded by crazy good braking systems that work well and finally my truck has a feeling similar.

What year truck do you have? The pins on my 06 CTD are metal on rubber. The boot looking things go all the way through, the pin does not touch metal anywhere. New boots are available at a normal parts store for a nominal cost for a set of 4.

Brake Pads

It's a 12' and it's Deffinately metal on metal the amount of rust from the caliper itself is astonishing. There's hardly any rust on the pins themselves but the caliper is what is seizing the pins inside
The boots are actually all fine I have one torn and I moved it to top of caliper and filled with slide grease so no water could penetrate and surprisingly that's the only caliper that wasn't seized lol the calipers that were the worst the boots were fine.

I'm still lovin the PowerStop 1 click kit from Rock auto . com. $480 to my door. Z-36 towing/extreme duty pads. Zinc plated, drilled, chamfered & slotted. Just starting to rust a tiny bit. Been on there about 2 years now of NY salt winters. Stock ones were incredibly rusty @ 2 yrs. About 20-30% better than stock.

The PW went in for state inspection a few weeks ago. Well, I got a sticker for the windshield. But I had to replace the rear Yellowstuff pads and rotors. Had the left rear caliper hang up. The slide pins were frozen, and the bleeder nut was broken off. Which chewed up the pads and rotor on that side. So I replaced the rear rotors with EBC rotors. Replaced the caliper. Replaced both front and rear pads with the Yellowstuff pads. Bled the brake system with Motul 600 DOT 4 brake fluid. Brakes feel great again. I can lock up the tires again. I had about 30,000 mils on these pads.

Motul 600 is a little unnecessary... the only reason people may need it is because it has a higher boiling point over oem fluid. It really is only for racing applications where brakes see excessive temperatures.

Well................I have a couple of bottles of the stuff. Use it for my motorcycle and trackday car. I do have a couple bottles of Castrol React SRF. Now that is overkill for the PW.

The Castrol React SRF brake fluid is like $62.00 for a one liter bottle. :jawdrop:

Yea, that was a full spec race Miata. The guy is national ranked. You'll pass them down the straights, only to have them ride your bumper through the turns. So everyone just let those guys go with the full spec cars. They only weight about 2,000 lbs. I'm at 3,200 lbs. Those pounds mean alot. What blows your ear drums out is a Nascrap race car passing you. :jawdrop: What's neat is going around following a old Ford GT40 with the 427 motor. I didn't get a video of him passing me then following him. :(
