Winch wire hitting bumper

Post by drew165 » Thu Sep 24, 2015 9:52 pm

The power wagon winches factory are inside the bumper. Is there anything I can do so when I use the winch that it doesn't drag on the bumper ? Like a fare lead attached to the outside of the bumper?

Didn't you already ask this? And we said don't pull on extreme angles and it won't happen?

Honestly they have been using this design for ten years without issues lol. The winch is not designed to be operated at such a steep angle were you're hitting the bumper... However there are indeed options for you. First option buy a good set of recovery gear with snatch blocks which will allow you to change your winch angles... Another is to replace your entire front bumper with a winch bumper however they are heavy and bulky looking and I honestly don't think it' worth it. The only one that i'm aware of that is light a good looking is the one below.

This bumper designed for power wagons meaning it uses the factory winch mount. You would have to call to see if they have a model for your model year but once again a cheaper route would be to just buy some some gear. Me personally I wouldn't go bolting on a hawse fairlead to the front of your bumper... It screams warranty void lol.

I think it was determined to be a non-issue. Just pick up the appropriate recovery gear and you shouldn't run into the problem you've mentioned.

You could always do what I did, but it's an expensive option. Recovery gear is your least expensive bet, but even I have the same recovery gear.

That was one of my first mods ... The factory bumpers are too weak for the rocky terrain here in AZ. I think I paid around $2,250 for it. I have Trailready bumpers front and rear ... With the Whiteknuckle Rock Sliders, I'm pretty well armored now ...

It's pretty solid. The specs are on their website. I'm very happy with the setup.
