2014 White Knuckle Sliders installed

Post by P40hawk » Sun Sep 06, 2015 8:28 pm

I received my WhiteKnuckle Sliders Friday for my 2014 and installed them. I have to say that I was very impressed with the shipping and packaging and overall quality of the product. The sliders arrived as ordered with all the brackets clearly marked and the hardware was exact and good quality. The installation on my 14' was a bit much especially with no help. I installed them on my own and the front mounting bracket requires two shims to be installed bewteen the frame and brackets. It was tough by myself. It also seemed like the instructions were written for a 2500 and not a powerwagon. I had to remove the gas tank skid plate to install the rear mount. That was not outlined in the instructions. Also found it useful to remove the storage bins in the floor boards. It took seven weeks to get them once they were ordered but they look good and are very strong. I ordered the 0.120 wall DOM set powder coated. $1350 total.

That's awesome. I ordered mine about 4 wks ago, had them shipped directly to the local Line-X dealer. I'll pick them up from there once they're finished. I ordered the .120" tube, not the .188", but I ordered them in the stronger HREW not the standard DOM, with full length diamond playing, in bare metal. The powered coating from W.K. was $200, while Line-X quoted me $160.

How long did it take to install them? Any other tips than remove the coolers & the rear skid plate?

John used a 2500 Diesel for the build and fit testing (and apparently for the instructions too  )

My sliders were custom welded, but they mount in similar fashion. My lessons learned are:
1. Make sure the parking brake is released. A tight parking brake cable makes life difficult.
2. You may need to pull out a couple of wiring harness clips from the left frame rail. I'd cut some pieces of rubber hose to chafe-proof anywhere the harness touches the mounting hardware.

There are a few other tips. Like Low Sky suggested the parking brake issue and the wiring harness retainer clip issue need to be followed. Both of those are outlined in the instructions given by WhiteKnuckle. Also, both sliders came with one shorter bolt than the others. All mounting bolts were 5 inches long and then one 4.5" bolt. The parts list and instructions did not list this. However, It was obvious that this bolt was for the floor board storage compartments. The #4 position fits just inside the storage compartment and the longer bolts will interfere with the compartment wall.
The instructions also state to line up the sliders in the middle of the truck but it is hard to tell where that is. So I marked the center of the truck and center of the sliders and lined up the marks. The instructions stated to hold the sliders with floor stands but I found it easier to balance the sliders on my floor jack and move them into position that way.
Working by myself it took about three hours. But I'm not a fast worker. (easily distracted)

They look great installed. Congrats.

adeluca - I feel your pain. Between getting them built, shipped out here and then the bed liner done I was dying for them. Well worth the wait though.

I hate to say it, but in the metal tubing world DOM is considered the strongest tube as opposed to HREW because it has an exposed seam. Most every rock buggy and racing roll cage including NASCAR, Rally, Dirt Track etc. is always made from DOM tubing.

How are them bad boys working out for you? I've got mine off right now and JB and I are doing some mods, heavier expanded metal to fill in the gaps for rock chip protection and extending the step grip. Funny, his mounts are exactly what they came up with except for the shim. He actually welded in a plate and smoothed it out to correct the offset, which is a better design in my opinion, shims are a cheap fix for an unexpected problem. Although if white knuckle had them out I probably would have bought them, but, I do like the fact that mine are made to exactly my specs and look I want, at $800. Maybe I rubbed that in a little lol. All in fun. I do like them and they look sweet on your truck. Its amazing how much braver you will get once you have solid protection and an actual full skid plate from side to side.

So far so good, but I haven't had a chance to go wheeling with them yet. They do make a heck of a step, though!
