Loosing the 20's no more mall crawler

Post by 06ryan27 » Wed Aug 26, 2015 5:19 pm

Got me some 18's and putting some Firestone destination m/t's on it, 35x12.50R18, rims are a 0 offset, little more off road worthy. Gonna miss the look though

Good choice for off-road, how did you like the grapplers? I really love the look of them.

My 07 had 20 inch wheels with 33's when I bought it in 2009 after deployment, then I put 35 Nitto TrailGrapplers on it but kept the wheels. It wasn't ideal for what I did in the mountains, but I was careful and never dented or cracked the wheels, but I did indeed have to consciously avoid certain rocks or such to protect them, which took a little longer. I did a lot of tire research prior to choosing the TrailGrapplers and I also LOVE the looks of those Mud Grapplers. However, I read that they have a much softer rubber on them which leads to much faster wear down when on pavement. The Trailgrapplers were brand new to the Nitto family in 2009 but the reviews were building in a very positive manner. Rubber is more hard than MudGrapplers, but not too hard to hinder offroad performance. I loved those tires then so much that I also put them on my current one and I still love them. They look very nice and wear nicely too. The only drawback for our trucks is it causes a pull to the left, versus many other tires causing a pull to the right. My Carli steering stabilizer instructions even specifically said "is it suggested to purchase part xxxxx for Nitto Trailgrappler tires, which cause a left hand pull". This part reverses which side the stabilizer mounts to the axle. I haven't done it yet. I just released the pressure to lighten the push to left. It still pulls, but not as much when it had 100+ lbs of Nitrogen out of the box. Anyways, back to tires, haha. I can vouch for the Nitto's, but haven't tried anything else except the Toyo's my 07 had on it when purchased. They were rough.

Good choice, why not 17"'s? I'd go down even further it they would fit. My 37's dont look near as big as 37's use to look on 15"

I only do what the majority of the 4 voices in my head tell me to. In most cases, I ignore two of them because one doesn't speak English, and I suspect the other is talking to someone else.

Thanks for the intrest, I wasnt quite happy with the 17's, needed a little more wheel, 20's were a little too much, so far happy as hell with the 18's and new tires, even though I only have 15 miles of all pavement driving on them  I will post a couple pics as soon as I get off work.
