thredwright 315/70/R17 true size 34x11R17 on truck. No rub!!

I ordered some Guard Dog MT's 315/70 R17 which are D rated. Threadwright:
https://www.treadwright.com/individual- ... 70R17.00-D

My stock tires are the BF AT's at 285/70/ R17 which on my truck measure up to 31.5 inch tall and 11 inches wide. My main goal is to have tires that will be taller and not rub at full lock. I don't want to use wheel spacers or purchase curved arms.

I was about to pull the trigger on 4 Interco SuperSwampers SSR's in 35x10.5R17 which are about $1700 delivered to me. Than I would pay to have them installed.

I wanted clarification on how wide they actually are. The Guard Dogs MT are 315/70 R17 & over the phone I was told they are 34.7in tall but they come in narrow at just 11 inches. Another rep told me they would be between 10~11 inches wide. On tirerack.com most in this size are 12.5in wide. A lot of disparity

I am patiently waiting for my new tires and hope to not have rubbing while making U turns ect... I will update this post with a ton of pictures and actual measurements of the tires on the truck vs. off vs. what is on their website.

4 of these came in at $789 Delivered with $65 for install and balance by a local shop quote I got. So, stay tuned! We might have the pizza cutter look without breaking the bank like those Interco Swamper SSR's.

Best,
bigC

That is a good tread pattern. I wonder how soft or hard the compound is ?

I have never ran them but have a buddy that has. His experience with one set was good, they lasted almost 40k and balanced well on a 05 ctd. The second set, on an 07 duramax, ran about 20k. Then He bought a large toy hauler 5th wheel, took off for the east coast and 700 miles into the trip had to replace both rears due to blowouts. He did end up buying some used michelins on all 4 corners to finish the trip. So for safety sake, do not use them to tow heavy for extended trips. For normal use, they seem to be OK. He said they always had good traction but after that experience with them he would not run them again. I wouldn't hesitate to run them on an old Jeep CJ for sure. My truck, no, I tow with it. If I didn't, I would give them a try.best of luck to you. I would like to know how they perform and last for you.

They offer new bead to beads for $5 more per tire. Seems like that would be the way to go to ensure you get a new tire

Just to summarize. The Threadwright tires I got were in fact the ones that have the company branding on them. From what I gather these are what they call B2B and tires say Guard Dog on them. So, I have no idea what that means as far as what is the recycled tire being used ect...

Ultimately; I have never been so impressed. Even my wife (off road spotter for the day) was in disbelief that while doing those obstacle coarse's we had zero spinning or slipping. Previously we would take a 2012 Wrangler with 35x12.5R17's Mud Rovers with lockers too and tires would spin and slip but eventually lockers got us out. We switched over to some other name brand mud tires and had similar issues. BTW: The mud rovers were 33.5in tallx12.8in on the Wrangler.

I would definitely be buying these again. The only thing available that specs out to tall and skinny like these tires are the Swamper SSR's I originally wanted which are 35x10.5 but in reality are 11inches wide and slightly over 34in tall, but come in at almost $1700 plus install. These were almost $1000 less for the same style and size

turning the wheel completely reveals I get no rubbing

I've been looking at these and debating which size to get, but I think you just persuaded me to get the 315/70/17s instead of the 285/70/17.

bigchelis how were they to balance? i.e. did it take a ton of weight to get them to balance out. Also how are they on the street loud-loose?? I have been eyeing this up for some time and haven't pulled the tigger fearing that they would end up taking 20oz of weight to balance and would be all over the road.....

I went with 285/75/17 Toyo A/T II's and I'm really happy with them. Maybe give those a look.

Sorry, it's time for me to chime in. First "Tread" is spelled "tread" not "thread", one of my pet peevs. I work with tires..... A lot. If you are using the vehicle off road only, more power to you, but I know what it takes to make a safe tire. Spend the little bit of extra money for new tires, like all the way new. You own a power wagon for crying out loud. My family and your family are on the same roads you are. Not trying to spark a debate or argument but they just are not as safe as new tires. It will cost you a lot more money then the $700 you just saved to fix that bed side when the tread completly seperates form the carcass.
