Had to drop new Wagon off for service.

Post by Ed1774 » Wed Aug 12, 2015 4:08 pm

Well I picked up my new PW on July 1st. I'm really loving the truck but unfortunately I have a few issue's with it so today I reluctantly dropped it off at the dealer. Here's my issues and I'm curious if others have had the too.

1. Between 60-70 mph the truck shakes pretty good. I'm guessing the Duratrac's are out of balance but I suppose it could be a driveshaft.
2. Whenever I have the HVAC blowing out of the dash only and the fan is on the highest 2 settings I hear something rattling around in the vent's. Sounds like a piece of paper or a leaf. Very annoying.
3. The worse issue is on 4 occasions I've started the truck and put it in gear. When I step on the gas the rpm's rise but the truck barely moves for 3-5 seconds then the transmission engages. It's like there's no pressure in the tranny and it's slipping. It's done this in both reverse and drive.

I really hope the dealer takes good care of the truck and makes it right. I had a 2010 Ram 2500 that I traded on the PW and in 60,000 miles I owned it I needed to replace the engine, both driveshafts, both front axle U-joint's, and the radio.

Your 3rd issue is normal for mine, the brakes will hold until it builds enough rpm and they release. Ive been on a steep hill and it will hold without me touching the brakes.

Yeah, your third item sounds like hill start assist. Do you remember if you were on an incline?

Thanks for the replies guy's. I got the truck back yesterday evening. While this is my first vehicle with hill descent control I doubt thats the issue. The rpm rise I'm experiencing is 1500+ rpm while I'm on fairly level ground. Actually it's done it 4 times and 3 have been in my driveway where its flat. It doesn't matter because the technician stated the transmission acted normal for him. I guess I need to wait until it's slipping worse.

I still have a vibration on the highway. They stated they road force balanced the tires but after looking at my tires/rims really good it appears only one tire came off the truck. I believe this because only one tire had the brake dust disturbed on the inner rim. all others appeared untouched. I did recently wash the truck so the outside part of the rim's were clean but I can't see a technician removing all 4 tires and 3 having no brake dust disturbed on the inner rim after removing the tire, putting the tire on the balancer, taking tire off balancer, and putting tire back on truck?

I'm no fan of GY Duratrac's anyway. I had them on my old truck for a few weeks and returned them due to a balance issue and the squirminess of them. On the other hand, my 285/75/17 Toyo AT2 Extremes took hardly any weight and were smooth as silk up to 90mph (never went faster).

As for the HVAC they did hear the noise. My option's are to live with it or reschedule an appointment so they can tear the dash apart to replace the ductwork. I said I'll live with it for now.

However, they were real proud of the fact that they reflashed my radio due to the hacking issue so I guess the trip wasn't a complete waste of time..

Oh, and today I went to load something in the back of my truck and I found a little empty Mopar parts box and an empty McDonalds cup in the back. I guess the pricks thought it was a trash can too.

1. It's a four wheel drive with off road tires, in fact, the most capable one of them all, want a smooth ride, should've got a 2wd Chevy...
2. Option A - turn up radio, Option B - roll down window...
3. Give it a few minutes, maybe even remote start ahead of time. It's not good to "crank and go" anyway. It has a warranty, drive it...

 Really though, it would suck to drop that much coin and have issues but I dont think you need to worry about any of them. The tires are most likely the ride problem. Wear them out and get new ones. Paranoia will shorten your life span... :D

I only do what the majority of the 4 voices in my head tell me to. In most cases, I ignore two of them because one doesn't speak English, and I suspect the other is talking to someone else.

Take it someplace other than the dealership and get the tires balanced. Sucks to pay for, but better than the vibration. No experience with the other issues.

Total worthless dealership it sounds like, try another. Sounds like the Grand Junction Dealership, hands down the most incompetent pieces of sh!ts in our solar system. Ever look in amazement how these phucs do not have an alligators sense...blows my mind!

I hope you can get this one figured out soon. Too bad it couldn't have been the easy answer! While we're on the subject, I might as well mention that Hill Descent Control and Hill Start Assist are two different systems.

I hate that. Happens to me when I leave my truck parked at work for long periods. People must think it looks like a trash can out in the middle of the parking lot.

Its a different trucks and trans, but my 06 ram 2500 would kind of do the same thing with the trans issue you are experiencing. What i finally came to determine was every time I let the truck sit for a while (at least over night) when I started it back up and put it in gear there would be a long hesitation before it would actually go in gear. Like a 6 to 10 second hesitation, then slip right into drive or reverse like normal. Never did really figure out what was causing the issue, but it never left me stranded or caused any more issues otherwise. I just couldn't take right off after first stating it. The guy I bought it from had it since it was brand new and he said it did it since the truck was new. Dealer couldn't figure out the cause at the time so they just documented it in case there was a major issue later.

My 2015 that I purchased in April has not exhibited any of those symptoms, for what it's worth.

I've only noticed HSA apply while off-road.

My driver's seat squeaks on bumpy roads, but it seems to come and go... not sure what's up with that but I'm not sure I care enough to deal with the dealership.

Thanks for the additional replies. I agree the tires are an off road tire. So were the 285/75/17 Toyo AT2 Extremes on my 2010 that were smooth as silk.

The transmission did it again to me today. The TSB posted by cruz accurately reflects what my truck is doing. I have another appointment this week so we'll see what happens.

Like I said, I love the truck and I'll work through these issue's.

My truck is also vibrating at 68 to 70 mph. When I drop my tailgate, one cable holds all the weight. The second cable is not under load. The dealer told me at first, they're all like that. I walked the lot and saw a few but did find one that was equal. I requested they swap out the cables and they did. No change. This lead to the theory that my truck may have been tied down too tight in transport and something is slightly bent.

PS Heard the argument -"Buy a two wheel drive Chevy"... after spending 50K, I want an undamaged truck. If other Power Wagons don't vibrate then mine shouldn't either.

Their nickname is DuraShake, the stock tires are well known for wearing kind of funny and they do shake after not many miles. They need to be kept rotated. I had the exact tires on my last truck. It would get shaky, I would rotate and it would be good again for a while. Gets worse as they age. I still love them for the combo of winter ad summer traction. Heck I can feel the shake starting and I am only at 4000 miles, about ready for a rotate!
