Talk to me about tuners...

Post by Nub » Sat Aug 08, 2015 10:39 pm

2013 PowerWagon... What are my options for tuners? I've been reading for days (and off and on for months) and so far all I can come up with is threads that are a year or two old (on multiple sites) talking about issues trying to program 2013-present.

What options are out there now? Help!

What all does the Diablo allow you to change on the 13 Ram? They list a lot of features but they also say some not available on all makes. Read a lot of post about the TPMS not being adjustable on the Ram. Any other features you found that work or don't work in the Rams?

I Have a '13 and I am running the Intune with hemifever tuning. Some quirks but I will be getting back with Sean to see if we can fix them. I run the custom 91 tune right now. Highway mpg has picked up if I stay at 80mph... around 14 to 15. Seat of the pants feeling is a lot better off the line. The issue I have is that the truck hunts for gears from 30 to 55mph during both acceleration and deceleration. It kills the mileage in town between lights. Hope Sean can figure it out when I email him the data logs. If you have any questions I will be glad to help ya out.

I got an email reply from Diablo Sport today that they are actively working on the 2015 year models now and hope to have something out soon.

Did you enter the "measured" tire size?

I only do what the majority of the 4 voices in my head tell me to. In most cases, I ignore two of them because one doesn't speak English, and I suspect the other is talking to someone else.

Interesting day.

So on Saturday morning I went in to my local dealer to have my speedometer re-calibrated for my larger ties. They said the machine they use does not allow them to select a tire based on measurements, rather it has a list of tires from which they can choose. The tallest tire they said they could find was 275/60R20 ... which happens to be the exact same height as the factory provided Duratracs.... <sigh>. so anyways, this prompted me to email DiabloSport and Hypertech to see if they would be doing 2015 tuners any time soon.

I didn't hear anything on a Hypertech tuner, but they did reply regarding their tire calibration only device.
It appears the device for the 2015 RAM 2500 that supports the 5.7L Hemi will also work for those of us with the 6.4L Hemi.

So if anyone is holding their breath for a speedo only 2015 tuner... looks like you are in luck.

EDIT: they said it is part #752501.

Attempted to change the tire size twice but it wouldn't take. I will try again to see if that works.

I might be missing something but if it's a "speedo only tuner" then it's not a tuner. Why bother spending the money when you can calculate the difference in revs per mile on your original tire vs the new tire and just do the math in your head at any given speed? How hard is it to know that 5% at 70mph is actually 73.5mph? Factory speedo is never that accurate anyway because they always read high (regulatory and liability issues). Going up one or two tire sizes might actually put your speedo right on the money. The Auto Club here in So Cal has mobile speedo test units for members. They go to shopping centers and county fairs and sometimes just run tests in their office parking lot. Put the truck on their rollers and get a reading, then it's easy to tell how much different the indicated speed will be with the new tires.

The reason I want my speedometer calibrated is for total mileage. I want to be able to do the math every fill up and know it is accurate. Sure I could add 5% but if there is something out there that allows me to change it so I don't have to do the math as I drive I would buy it. The fact that diablosport advertises that they can adjust tire size when in fact they can't to me is a money hungry move for as much as they charge for these tuners. Especially when the half the tunes dp absolutely nothing and 9 times out of 10 you need a custom tune to feel any difference anyway.

I'm not sure about the dedicated speedo correctors themselves but the main reason for the correct tire size is for the transmission shift points to be correct as well. Out of curiosity, I changed mine to 33" while running the 37's and it was all kinds of messed up. While rolling at 50mph and give it gas, it started shuttering like it didn't know what to do. Of course I changed it back asap. But on the actual tuner, I know the tire size input plays a lot more than just correcting the speedometer.
BTW, the Diablo has two different ways to input on mine, one is the metric (what's on the sidewall) and the other is the actual measurement. I use the actual measurement and even go as far as changing it when the tires wear down. My 37's measured 36.4 to begin with so I ran them at 36.5, now I have it set at 36 after half of tread is gone. I doubt it effects much other than fine tuning but it makes me feel better. :D

 Well they have the tire sizes in increments of .5", why not take advantage of it? By the time they need replacing, they'll loose an inch overall. :geek:

I called Hypertech and they said the 752501 would not work for the 2015 ram 2500 6.4.
Has any body tried the 752501?
Does anyone know of another solution?
