06 pw trac bar frame end bolt size?

Long story short, had a shop throw on a new trac bar and the frame end bolt got loose over time. Didnt notice till recently and now the hole at the frame mount is oblong and allows a little play even when the bolt is tight. My fault for not checkin.

Planning to make a couple 1/4" washers to weld on over the old mount holes to get everything tight again.

Hoping someone knows the size of the bolt so i can run out and grab a new one before i take the old one out. Gonna be adding 1/4" of meat to each side of the mount so im gonna need a longer bolt. Planning to throw on a nylock nut as well to prevent future looseness...

Now im just hoping the old bolt isnt siezed in the damn bushing.

I'd like to know this too. After I took my drop bracket off from my Superlift kit, I think I kept the wrong bolt that goes in there, because there was a little bit of play when inserting it, but had already sold the other hardware before trying the other bolts.

It's a lot easier and more reliable to upgrade to the larger bolt that is used in the later years. I did this a few weeks ago using a ⅝" drill bit. The larger bolt is 14mm. I was able to get my parts from CJC Offroad quick.

Sorry if I sound dumb here, but what did you do about the internal size of the trackbar hole, did you drill that out too? I upgraded to the Thuren trackbar which has what I would assume a stronger metal sleeve that the bolt goes through, so drilling it out may not be possible, or it might even compromise its strength in my mind.

Drilling out the steel sleeve wont affect anything. Theyre using plastic sleves for rear leaf spring bolts now so.... The sleeve is just there so the bolt doesnt wear the bushing.

I took out the old bolt and it was noticably worn so i took the 60 for a rip and got a couple new gr 8 bolts that are about an inch longer than the stocker with nylock nuts. Made the 1/4" washer dealies put everything together again and tacked em on. When everything was apart i finish welded, not the prettiest but shell hold lol. Was a bitch welding the back washer on..

Just waiting for it to cool now so i can throw some paint at it and put it back together. Hopefully the steering will be a little tighter now that the bolt fits nice n snug in the holes in the bracket.

Bolts are 9/16.

You did this too fast! I didn't have time to jump in here.

The bolts are metric. The new tracbar should have come with sleeves for both the smaller and larger (14 & 16mm) sizes. You could have drilled out the bracket and changed the sleeve.

On a tracbar, the sleeve is not just there to protect the bushing. When you torque the bolt down, the bracket is pulled in to the ends of the sleeve, pinching it in place. This also pushes the bushings into the round end which seats them and expands them in the bar end. Make sure you torque the bolt to spec, then retorque it a few time in the next few weeks of driving.

If I remember correctly, my Thuren trackbar did have different sleeves but I'm pretty sure they were only for the axle end, but I'll double check. Now, let's say I need to go out and buy a slightly larger diameter bolt for my frame end, any local style places I could get a strong bolt to handle this kind of force? Would Lowes/Home Depot have such a bolt? I know they have thousands of different bolts, but wouldn't have automotive bolts if there is a difference. I don't recall seeing any of these sized bolts at my local auto parts stores either, unless they are kept behind the cashiers. In the meantime, I will try and find those extra sleeves from Thuren.

Correction, the larger bolt is 16mm. The earlier one is 14mm.

Meh i didnt have the extra sleeve but i had a welder and 1/4" plate lol. Took the truck for a rip to manitoulin island yesterday after the fix and she rode mint. No more clunking when turning the wheels when stopped and less slop overall.

ACE has a great assortment of nuts and bolts, much better than the two big box stores.....

$6 each at the dealer there's a lot of stress on those bolts best to get the right ones. I just replaced mine because I rebuilding my Carli track bar one was slightly bent so I replaced both while I was in there.

When it comes to hardware im lucky i live in a mining town. 5 minutes from my place theres the mother of all nut and bolt warehouses and they have everything under the sun in stock. 6 bucks for 2 gr8 bolts and 2 nylock nuts.
