Just some ideas for other sections from other forums I'm on that seem to help keep things organized and seperated:
-wheels and tires, suspension
-cooking (what are things you like to make on the trail or at home and how you make it)
-a state by state area for people from the same place to discuss local stuff (or a regional area if it'd be easier)
***I hear that the state/region section is being thought about by the powers that be
-an emergency help/911 section for people who are away from home and need help with their truck

Other section ideas
Definitely interested in doing a state/regional topic area.
I like the idea of the trail cooking, but just not sure it'd be worth putting up a specific topic area (in terms of the amount of posts). Would maybe a sticky thread in Trips and GTGs work?
The 911 thing is intriguing. I'm thinking of how that might be implemented on a more global scale within the forum.

A sticky would work, but recipes would get lost quickly.ldgregory wrote:Definitely interested in doing a state/regional topic area.

The 911 thing is interesting. Can an individual section be password protected so that only members can access it? If so, anyone interested in participating can post contact information, by state/area/region, to be used by members "in need", if you will.

Re: Other section ideas
Yes, I can do it a couple ways. I can make a forum topic available only to registered users which would take care of 95% of the privacy issue. I could further password protect the topic area, but worry about people forgetting the password after a while at which point it wouldn't help them when they're stuck. I'm thinking maybe create a special group membership for people who want to be listed as 911 contacts who would have access to that topic area. Or maybe I can create a group which is more of a vetted group (you don't get added to it until I know you're a PW owner for sure) and those group members are able to see a contact phone number in people's profiles. This way, they can jump into the state / regional topic area to find posta by people there and view their profile which would show the contact phone number.
Let me play around and think on it.

Re: Other section ideas
Just some ideas on the emergency/911 section from the ones that I've seen:
Most don't list members contact info, but I do like the idea of having a passworded way to get it, they list shops/services in a state by state setup that members can contact if they are broke down. This style would work pretty well IMO if we did a state by state section and just stickied the emergency/911 stuff for that state (international might be a little more difficult). That style works better than the other version where the person in need simply puts up a post that they are in ______ and need help with ______ and wait for a response. I've also seen it where it's broken down by type of problem like engine or transmission.
As for the cooking a sticky would be fine but people would have to moderate themselves and only post recipes.

I think the 911 could be a sub category of the regional.

Re: Other section ideas
I don't mind the Forum being broken down into different sections; however, if we start breaking it down into regions and areas for local talk and so on, we're going to be in the same boat as before with having to navigate all over Gods creation to keep up with stuff. It's a Power Wagon Forum, and I am interested in hearing whats going on out in California, just like I am on the East Coast. I say we keep it to a minimum, so everyone can see what's going on. It's great to have it broken down like it is, but lets not split atoms.
And about the Emergency Contact Thread. I'd be interested if there could be a thread that you could SUBSCRIBE to if you wanted to recieve an alert when a POST is made and get it on your cell phone as a new post in the Emergency Thread.......... The only thing is, it would have to be protected in some way to keep trolls from making bogus "Calls for Help" in it. To tell you the truth, if I haven't seen you on here before, or I don't know you, I'm more than likely not coming out to help. It's a cool idea, but if you make friends with these guys, get thier phone number from them by PM or at some of our meetings and stay in touch.
I know last year when PowerwagonMark didn't make it to Rausch Creek, We were ALL worried about him! Everyone of us was trying to make contact with him and I doubt thre isn't one of us that wouldn't have abandonded the trip if he needed some help. That's the way we are. I say if you're interested, exchange phone numbers and stay in touch.
