I've had the Carli's for a numbers of years now. Never had a problem with them. The brackets on mine are made out of steel, not aluminum. I keep 5psi in them when empty.

My HIGH TECH solution ...
Blocks of wood and a torpedo level . Most of the time I only need to do one or two wheels and usually I can get it dead level in less than 5 minutes .
When it's time to drive somewhere and return later , I drive off the blocks and leave them there and use them as targets when I return.

They worked good when I was pulling the camper. I only need them now when I have a heavy load in the bed.

Four days earlier I was in San Diego buying my new camper , I drove home and threw a few things together and went up to Yosemite for a shake down cruise .
In this picture I had 45lbs. in the airbags with hardly any gear on board , way too much air .
Now when fully loaded for a long trip I'd have 40lbs. , but for shorter trips it would be 35lbs.

I received the DayStar cradles yesterday and after fitting everything up I notice that the airbag stop (the metal disc) does not bottom out in the taper of the cradle. It is making me nervous...should the base of the airbag rest on the bottom of the DayStar cradle? Or does it matter if it is caught in the taper?

I'm guessing this is just warrantee legalese. http://blog.truckspring.com/post/2014/0 ... r-bag-kits

The metal base of my airbag is 6.5" wide, so it doesn't sit all the way in the bottom of the cradle. The edges of the metal disc sit on the taper of the cradle...it am a little concerned given the force involved that the force will all be on edge of the metal disc, and that will be transferred to the taper of the cradle. The force should be evenly distributed on the metal disc to the bottom of the cradle. Im not sure if I need to add a spacer in the cradle. It seems like the empirical evidence from your build shows it will be fine and I'm just being nervous Nancy.

It could trigger a 2 megaton explosion...

The bottom of the airbag self centers in the taper; that's why it's there.

I don't want a 2 megaton explosion! It seems like the cradles are designed for a smaller diameter airbag. It says useable for any 6" airbag...and the airbags I have are greater than 6" in diameter. If I was designing these things the metal end plate would bottom out in the cradle and be guided into it by the taper. But I'm not designing them, and based on what you guys have seen they work pretty well.

Install will happen in the next few days, I'll post some pictures of what I'm talking about, just have to find the time.

Thanks again for all the info.

I installed the bags today. It took me a little longer than normal because I'm slow. ;) I put them in without lifting my truck at all, which might have been a little extra work. I have the upper bracket bolted in and the lower bracket loosely mounted.

I compressed the airbag to get it into the cradle and through the mounting holes on top.

Alignment was a bit off on the passengers side. I tried both positions, neither were ideal.

I put the schrader valves next to the license plate lights so I wouldn't accidentally kick them.

The passenger side bag, under load ( my camper), at 52 psi right now. The silver disc is still visible on one side. It didn't pop out while I was test driving it and I did some sways and sharp turns at speed. Hopefully it will center itself eventually.

SunLite 690 by SunValley . They, like a lot of the smaller RV manufacturers bit the dust around 2009 -2010 .
I wanted the smallest hard-side camper that would still fit the PW and look like it belonged there .
I'm 6' tall and wanted a full queen bed and standing head room .
The build quality isn't top of the line , but it does have a lot of good equipment . At $10,700.00 brand new It was also the cheapest , though price was not the determining factor . Over the past few years I've seen them for sale used on internet RV sales sites as low as $6400.00 .

Greetings

I have a 2014 Power wagon with rear coil springs. When I use my Forest River Camper the truck sags more than 4 inches. What type/brand air lift kit should I use to level the truck ?

Also does anyone have any suggestions on anti sway equipment? I'm looking at Hensley and Proride . Has anyone had experience with either one?

Thanks :)

I think your air bag needs to be mounted in the back hole (nearest the bumper). That Daystar cup needs to be parallel to the frame/air bag mount and not the springs like it looks like in the picture. I had a similar fit until I realized the cradle was not parallel to the air bag mounting surface. Dump any air in the bag and loosen the u-bolt holding the axle mount and wack it into alignment with a rubber mallet.

I see no need to put them in a vacuum. However the instructions clearly state to keep them at a minimum of 5psi. I assume this is so they will act more like a progressive bump stop and to maintain the shape of the bags. The 5psi may be too much for doing high speed stuff because once the bag is compressed all the way the air bag may give you some kick on rebound. For all other uses on road or off road 3>5psi is fine IMHO.
The minimum pressure is to prevent the bellows from rubbing each other.

The reason I said dump all the air is to allow for him to adjust the mount and relocate the bag in the rear hole. I still maintain that 3 to 5 psi is a good idea for an unloaded truck. He needs to fix the passenger side and to do that he will need to dump all the air first.
