Newbie

Post by trmat79 » Wed Aug 29, 2012 12:31 pm

Hey guys just wanted to swing by and say hi. I am the proud new owner (two weeks now) of a 2012 PW 2500 CC. So far this thing is freaking awesome. Love it more everyday. Upcoming plans are a bakflip roll-x bed cover (i think) and hunting around for some sliders. Looking forward to meeting everyone and enjoying the PW.

Welcome to the crew!

First items I'd look for are what you'll need to use that winch. No point in having it if you can't properly rig it. A least one, preferably two 12' tree straps, four good shackles rated to a minimum of 6T, a 50' extension, and at least one pulley block rated to 20K (a good one is http://www.superwinch.com/products/prod ... 5359.0.0.0), leather gloves, and a line damper are what I consider to be a minimum. The damper can be something as simple as a floor mat or heavy jacket.
I'm just along for the ride...

Cool guys thanks. Does anyone have a good pre made kit with the stuff mentioned above? Also I really want to put some sliders/steps on my truck. My old tacoma had some bolt on sliders (I know that bolt on aren't as strong) that I really liked but i haven't been able to find any for the PW that I like. N-FAB makes some slider steps but from the measurements that I heard the steps sit as low as 6" below the frame. I want something more tucked up but can still be a step. Photos will be coming soon.

I've used Viking Offroad/Winchline.com for years. If you have any questions, Thor (yeah, he's a genuine Viking...) is extremely knowledgeable, and will more than gladly answer any questions you have. http://winchline.com/ or http://vikingoffroad.com/ both go to Thor's stuff. He does carry complete kits. http://www.winchline.com/recovery-kits.html

If you are new to winching, please take the time to read http://www.overlandexperts.com/docs/new ... g_2008.pdf. Heck, even if you're not new to winching, it's well worth the time.

Great article on winching. Thanks for sharing. I hope to never have to use mine for anything other than moving an occasional stump around my yard. But if the time comes that information/knowledge will be priceless.
