New Rear Bumper = License Plate Light Question

Post by bryanh416 » Tue Apr 21, 2015 2:49 am

So, I upgraded my rear bumper, and now I have a question about tag lights. The new bumper is the T2 Rear from Bodyguard Bumpers, it comes with LED tag lights that just have wires coming off them. I wanted to buy something similar to an OE plug that I could wire to them, so that I could still use the factory connector, but I couldn't find anything :( so, I had to cut off the factory connectors and use some cheap snap connectors.
Everything works fine, but I still get the "license plate light out" message upon start-up. I assume that's because the factory light were not LED.
My questions are, how do I get rid of that message and what ways have yall used to wire the license plate lights on aftermarket bumpers?

As for the message, dunno...

I used two wire flat trailer connectors from O'Reillys on my rear bumper lights.

The communication from the lights has the PC thinking one is out. Did you wire back exactly the same as it was before or did you wire two lights to one side or something? I went through this when I put kill switches on my reverse lights and brake lights. I ended up having to put a separate switch for each brake light. If you cross them or join them, it confuses it. They will work but the wiring nowadays communicates back to the system through the same wiring. Different ohms means different things to the PC which could also indicate the low draw of the LED may be below the requirement for it to realize they are on. If that's the case, you'll either have to live with it or figure out a resistor or something to solder in the line to fool the PC or find some halogens.

South of Tallahassee now, not too far... I did most of my stomping around between Tifton and Warner Robins.

When I had my LED tailgate bar And LED 3rd brake light I had to add a resistor so it would work normally. It was a 6 ohm resistor I believe. I got it from GoRecon when I ordered the lights. Easy to do. Just just wire then in line.

That rear bumper is awesome & giving me a chudgedy... I wasn't thinking of changing the rear bumper other than having it Line-X, but now, I'm seriously thinking about it. It's exactly what I'd design if I would build my own. Damn you guys! How hard was it to install?

Install was pretty straight forward. Didn't come with instructions, but it mounts in the same place as the stock one. There is an extra bracket that mounts from the bottom of the bumper to the frame, I'm guessing it's tger to keep the bottom from flexing out if you use the D-rings super hard. It's definitely a sturdy bumper, I'd recommend it for sure.
