Thuren Control Arms and Custom 2.5 King Shocks Installed

Post by pdavey » Wed May 23, 2012 2:22 am

Well I finally got it done. Between putting the control arms on Saturday and installing the front shocks tonight, I think I am done wrenching on my truck for a while :)

The control arms went on fairly easy, but had to cut both of the front cam bolts to get the arms off. They must do that on purpose. Those bolts were so badly seized in the lower control arm it is no wonder I felt every vibration in the road :) The other bolts were a breeze but both of the front cam bolts had the same problem. If you decide to replace your control arms at a minimum order those bolts. Being that the service manual said DO NOT REUSE CONTROL ARM BOLTS, I made sure I had a set handy. All 4 bolts on the control arms are different too :) That will set you back $90 thank you very much!

Have been riding around for two days on the control arms and wow what difference. And the main reason for them was to stop the rubbing from my 35's. Mission accomplished. I got what seems to be 2 extra inches of turn out of them and my truck can doughnut like there is no tomorrow now :)

Decided to take on the shocks when I got home from work this afternoon. Looked at the service manual the other day and it seemed straightforward. I think it might have been if I had just replaced the shocks with another set of the Bilstien's however since the Kings are a lot larger they did not want to go in to well. Ended up having to take the frapping battery box out which is also connected to the fuse panel and the ABS pumps. What a freaking PITA. Once I got it out and then got the shock and new tower installed, guess what was almost impossible to put back in? You guessed it the battery box. Fought with it for about 30 minutes and finally found the right angle and got it installed. The passenger side shock was much easier. All in it took me about 5 hours to get the shocks done and the truck put back together. Took it out for a small test drive tonight and the shocks definitely make a difference. Can't wait to test the out at Rausch. These are Thuren's custom shocks and they have 2 extra inches of travel :excited:

I will get some picture uploaded tomorrow night of both the control arms and shocks. I know :nopics:

My bad. Missed that setting. Increased to 2MB per image. One thing we're not going to have to worry about here for quite a while is hard drive space on the forum server.

If 2MB isn't enough, I'll bump it again.
