Just thinking about my next insurance rate hike and how part of that went into buying this guy a new truck...

EDIT: It seems insurance companies in Canada tend to cover this type of thing, while OEM warranties do not.

HEY!! That's me you're all talking about!!

It's ok, I can take it. I forgive you guys because most of you are right with your comments, but really, I just made a very dumb mistake, don't let it write me off as the devil - i'm a decent guy, I took a stupid risk and learned a lesson the hard way.

Specifically on the comments;

Yes it was stupid.

I don't have loads of money, I was laughing because that's how I deal with bad news which I knew was the case. The truck wasn't paid for. I probably have a few screws loose somewhere but I enjoy my lifestyle.

Not only have I not invested in a snorkel for my 2010 PW, I don't drive through water anymore any faster than I can walk, and even then I tend to avoid it now.

You're right in that I probably won't make it to old age. I do drive my stuff hard (or stupidly as suggested) but I do keep up maintenance and fix what I break.

Ducky, what do you mean 'no dampener'? Are you referring to something to absorb the impact if the cable were to break?

Yes, the video is a good example of what not to do, hence why I put it up for those who motor through water like I see so often. On the tread lightly, we were in designated spots that allow us to tear stuff up.

Agreed that used vehicles are a bad idea unless you know what it has been through.

I don't know what a mall crawler is.

I don't use drugs and don't drink and drive.

I am from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada, not Alaska.

Insurane didn't pay for the 2010 PW I have. Insurance paid for about $8,000 of the repair. I paid the rest of the repair (which was a new long block) and I paid for the 2008 truck in full, and purchased the 2010 PW, insurance didn't.

I love my truck, even though it looks like I tried to kill it (and did), I just treated it more like a $55,000 quad instead of a pick-up truck.

Yes, you can get coverage for this type of thing in Canada, although it is hard to find.

Finally, I am 3/4 french but I don't speak it.

I'm not a total write off of a human being, am I? I'm up for learning how to off road safer, more responsibly - but I can't do that without learning from you guys, hence why I joined. What else can I do besides extend my reach for assistance?

Don't hate! I swear I'm not satan!

Cheers,
YK

YK, Glad to see you have recovered from the incident and took our comments with a grain of salt. Sounds like you made the best out of a bad thing (putting the long block in the previous PW) and have learned a pretty important lesson of "Even though we think our trucks are indestructible, they aren't :)"

Happy you haven't lost the faith and we don't think you are satan, just a little foolish :)

So do any of you guys swap video's of what kind of driving you're doing, or any how-to's of things like winching, towing each other out, etc?

Yellowknife...welcome to PWR and the :winchmob: ! Trust me, this crew will have your back and help you out any way they can. I'd say if you plan....repeat....plan to go submarining with your rig again, just at least invest in a snorkel and go through the steps of waterproofing your truck as best you can. There are others on here that know how to do that way better than what I could tell you...just ask 'em. I'm still waiting for a 4G model snorkel to be available.

Once again, welcome aboard. Safe boating! :D

Ducky, what do you mean 'no dampener'? Are you referring to something to absorb the impact if the cable were to break?
Yes, something to cause the cable to drop if it snaps mid-pull. The best ones are usually cordura with sand or lead shot sewn into them as weights, but you can also use a heavy tarp, a couple of heavy jackets, floormats, etc.
I don't know what a mall crawler is.
Could be because you don't have malls in the great white north? A mall crawler is a truck driven by dorks who think a 4WD truck is improved by massive amounts of lift, giant tires and lots of bling. But they don't worry about things like lockers and winches because you don't need those when you are crawling through the mall parking lot with your big-ass truck that never gets dirty. Mall crawlers are also notorious for going very slowly over speed bumps in the parking lot so that they don't cause their CD to skip in the player.

I will give you credit for having the nads to come on here and admit you were the perp. You have been redeemed (a little). Bob and Doug would be proud of you, eh?

Yellowknife - Before I had read the rest of this thread I responded to the video in the DT thread. Read it. I couldn't help but put in a little punch list. I appreciate the fact you want to learn but don't seem to have many resources where you are. If I were you I would check for local offroad clubs, buy something from 4wheelparts and get a free years worth of offroad adventure magazine and subscribe to petersen's, off-road or fourwheeler magazine. Extreme 4x4 show on spike tv and four wheeler show on versus channel.

Props for taking the heat,YK.

I thought back to my first vehicle, which was a 1985 GMC Jimmy 4x4 (with the worst engine GMC has ever designed, carburated 2.8L V6). There are at least half a dozen times where I would have hydrolocked my motor had the circular intake not sat on the very top of the engine, and I crossed streams where water came over the hood and splashed onto the roof. No telling how close I came.
