Pro-Link Factor 55

Post by jeepxj13 » Fri Jun 01, 2012 9:45 am

Saw this over on expo and thought some of ya'll may like to take a look at it. It does seem to be a nice way to add a D-ring to the winch.

 That looks really nice. Not avail for ours yet though. Only for up to 3/8" cable & 16,000lbs max. Ours is 7/16". I suspect the ProLink XXL will fit ours when it is avail. & the XTV will prob be for atv's

I used to wonder why they didn't put a steel cable thimble on our winch end loop. I put one on mine & the first time i used it, it bent the snot out of it. Now i know why !

I just installed the Prolink on my 2014. I had to slightly bend the upper part of the bumper opening.

Why wouldn't you use a shackle on the end of your hook? I haven't seen any signs of stress on my hook in 8 years. Anyone hear of hook failures? I've had some pretty hard pulls in the past and one may have a 5 ton truck involved in my future?

Most of the time the hooks are fine. There have been some issues (not PW specific) but mainly could have been avoided with maintainence or proper techniques. A shackle is safer and stronger but a hook isn't wrong.

I've made plenty of pulls without issue, including pulling a 10k+ pound tractor up a steep incline with flat tires. I do usually use a shackle to attach hook to strap or whatever. I would mention I would not advise hooking strap ends directly to hook. That has always made me shudder when I see it for some reason.

I would not advise hooking strap ends directly to hook.
If the eye on your strap fits inside the hook, then your strap is probably not big enough.

after looking my stuff over I don't have any worries. I've had my line on 2 snatch blocks with pulls no one else wanted to try and don't see any distortion or fatigue. I'm good. It's not a part that will strand me or someone else either.
