New adjustbale drop hitch

Post by myoung84 » Wed Jul 25, 2012 3:01 pm

I had a 6" drop hitch that was just about perfect for my boat but since I gained an inch from my new tires and will soon gain 1.5" additional rear lift, I needed a new hitch. I wanted an adjustable hitch but didn't like the billet style and didn't want the cheap looking ones with the removable pins. I also wasn't willing to spend a fortune on one. I was able to find this one on Amazon for a little over $100. It doesn't come with the ball, which is great for me since I already have my Reese interchangeable balls. It appears to be great quality and is rated for up to 10k lbs.

I know you said "cheap" more or less, but I can honestly say the Anderson Manufacturing Aluminum drop hitch is worth every penny and it looks great too.

On a stock 2005 PW with 35" KM2s, I've used it for towing all sorts of different trailers, popups, campers etc. The cool thing about this hitch is it's reversible (put it in upside down) which I've actually had to do when towing a friend's Jeep on a 16' tandem axle trailer which had a really high coupler.

I know those are great quality, but since I only remove it when I go wheeling, I wanted a black one.

These are what I did NOT want...

I went the Anderson Rapid Hitch myself. I think I found mine on Ebay or Amazon for a good price (their website is high). I went with the 10" drop- I'd rather have too much hitch than not enough.

This is the hitch i have. The shank is solid steel. More than most would need but it is needed for my camper/hauler.

Off topic, can I get some info on the backup camera in the first picture?

It's just your standard cheap backup camera. $25 at amazon. The bracket is just a plastidipped piece of aluminium bolted to an existing hole in the hitch. I don't really like the location, I would rather have it centered since I can only see stuff on the driver side. I had the same camera in the tailgate handle but it was useless with the tailgate down. When I hitch my boat up I normally have my ATV in the bed with the tailgate down.

I will be doing something different soon. I also have a front camera which is awesome for offroading.
