aux switch panel

Post by mike1545 » Tue Dec 23, 2014 10:04 pm

Today I installed my factory aux switch panel but i don't think its right, the light on top of the switch is off and i have 12v coming out of the switches, push the button's in and the light's come on and there's no longer any power out of the switches. Is this normal? seems to be backwards but its wired as per the directions.

sounds like something is backwards. Light should come on when button is pushed in AND should have power to the switches. No light-no power.

Thanks for the reply just wanted to double check. swapped wires around ended up with 12 volts all the time so i'm guessing the panel is bad.

You "could" still use it. I would get a new one if it's bad but you could wire it thru a relay and your load thou the normally closed side, you would have to wire the load so it only comes on when the ignition is on so not to drain the battery. I come from a place where you make things work if they need to and you don't have another option, it's called farming hahahhaa

I just ordered a new one. I come from a similar place called dumb enough to own my own semi 3 actually many loads were delivered on a prayer and a roll of bailing wire. Cant bring myself to do the "whatever works" stuff to this truck. Thanks for the help.

I just got one of these today: http://shop.pkys.com/product.asp?itemid ... 7AodCmQA0A

Of course i paid $12 more because i bought it at Cabela's, our new store round here.

Gotta love gift cards. I spent over $75 total & got a $20 gift certificate, so i guess it's kinda like i spent $8 less for it in the end.

I am strongly looking at these too: https://www.desertrat.com/products/?id=9032 My lights suck so bad, i'm just thinking of drilling holes in my hood, by the hinges, to mount them ??? Not sure yet though.

This is normal. With the button off you will have 12V on all of the output wires. When the button is active, you will have a ground output. This will be used to trigger a relay. Wire one side if the coil to 12V and the other side to the switch output and you're good to go.
