winch accessory kit

Post by ramit99 » Tue Nov 11, 2014 3:11 pm

Do the new Power Wagons still come with the kit that has straps and gloves etc. In it? The Dodge website says 2005-09. They want 500 bucks for one.

Heck, my '09 didn't come with anything, so I doubt the new ones do either.

You can build you a nice basic kit for $500.00. It should include four 3/4" shackles rated to 6.25T WLL, a good pulley block like the ARB 9000 Ultra Lite Snatch Block, an ARB 715 Snatch Strap, a couple ARB 735 tree savers, and a Viking Offroad 3/8" x 50' Black Winchline Extension. That pretty much takes care of the coin...

True. Guy here in town has 2 Power Wagons he took the winches out of to install plows. Trying to contact him to see if he still has the kits. He sold the winches.

Likely get you on the shipping though. But at $412 it is the cheapest OEM kit I found.

Didn't get that kit with my new '05, but have acquired the same level of stuff from various sources. Probably have way more than $412 in it, so if you are starting from scratch, that might be a decent deal. ARB offers a similar kit, at typical ARB prices.

I wouldn't use the ARB 9000 ultra lite snatch block because the sheave is a "one sheave fits all". It's 1/4 inch in the bottom of the valley and 1/2 inch at the top of the shoulder. With our 7/16 diameter line, the cable will not be properly supported and is vulnerable to deformation, wear, damage and failure. Synthetic rope is more tolerant to these conditions which would make the ARB a fine choice.
As a crane operator who works primarily on power lines, I know the importance of having a matching sheave diameter and wire rope diameter.
Warn has a good block with the correct sheave. I would recommend looking at a McKissicks or a Yoke snatch block. McKissicks is US made and is $300 ish and the Yoke is made in Taiwan and is under $150 ish. The McKissicks is arguably better but they are both tested and rated to the same standards. They are primarily used in industrial settings and are very high quality. The sheaves can be swaped out as well as the hooks or shackles. They are rated in metric tones( 1 ton = 2200 lbs). They have a 4:1 WLL and are rated at 4 tons. That makes them good to over 36200lbs break point.
They take a test group of blocks and stress them to break point and the first one to break determines the upper point rating. Because the other blocks in the test group have yet to fail, the actual average of the break point of all the blocks is greater than 4:1.
They get abused daily at work and hold up very well. I would highly recommend either of them. I bought a Yoke with
D Ring (13 lbs). And love it. I couldn't justify the expense of the McKissicks block given the fact that it won't see vigorous usage.
2013 Laramie, m young locker bypass, 315/70/17 Duratracks, synthetic winch rope and factor 55 safety thimble, warn wireless remote, Carli long travel air bags. Yoke snatch block, Crosby shackles and an assortment of ropes, straps and slings.

Indeed, the Warn is better for steel. I use rope, so the ARB is my choice of block. It's been used a lot, and shows no sign of it.
