Considering Selling the PW...

Post by slimstick » Fri Nov 07, 2014 1:59 pm

What's going on guys? I'm in an interesting predicament. I currently have a 2010 Power Wagon which I'm the second owner of and it's approaching 90k miles which is when my warranty is up. I'm military and will be headed to Hawaii in August of next year. The military will ship the vehicle free of charge but I'm wondering if it's worth holding on to considering I've heard alot of talk about the roads are smaller than the mainland here and I'll be on an island for 3 years. Option 1: I can take it with me and use it occasionally I assume although here it's my daily driver. Option 2: I can sell/trade it for something else for the few years I'm over there. Option 3: Possibly trade it in for a newer model with a great warranty and keep a Power Wagon in my driveway. I'm attached to mine and have a few upgrades on it already...(6" BDS lift, 35x12.50 Nitto Trail Grapplers, 17" Method Wheels, Dual exhaust, and Diablo Tuner). Any and all opinions are welcome and appreciated.

If it's paid for I'd keep it. That, or maybe sell it and buy a Rubicon that would be more narrow street friendly.

No. Not paid for. Still have a couple years left on it. That's why I'm in a bind considering the warranty is almost up as well.

You'd be better off selling it and buying cheap transportation there. Fuel is stupid high, you can drive 90% of the roads in one weekend, and you'll be doing more beach stuff than 4x4'ing.

i've been to every Hawaiian island and i just don't see a need for a 4x4 because you will just end up being a beach bum there.

Keep it, add a locking tool box to the back, pack with ice and beer, attach sand friendly nittos to them fancy rims, equip with 2 chaise loungers and wire in a second battery along with 2 external waterproof speakers.

Enjoy the beach and Hawaii, keep the wagon, find a place to flex her muscles every now and then.

Another option if you could afford it would be to keep it and work on it ( mods) in anticipation of your return. Buy a motorcycle or a small car for when your there and sell it when you return.
I'm assuming Oahu is your destination and it's not likely to offer much wheeling opportunities, but on the big island you can find some. Lucky guy... Hawaii is beautiful, although I think I would miss home after a while.?.?

Keep it. I'm military too. I shipped my vehicle to AK. Because once it's gone, well it's gone...
