Rails/running board recommendations.
Hey guys,
I got myself a 2014 Laramie power wagon that's bone stock for now. AND I LOVE IT! My only complaint, and it's one my wife, parents, friends, and the dogs (if they could talk) share, is that it's a tall SOB to climb in and out of. I want to slap some rails with steps to double as a running board to the truck. Does anyone have suggestions for me? I've found some from white knuckle off road, aluminess, and of course ranch hand. I'd like to hear some pros and cons for each of them. Thanks guys.

Hello there I would say the first question would be are you going to wheel the truck? and if so explain the terrain. White Knuckle would be my choice as they are truly functional steps and are rock sliders so they will protect your truck and can act as a jack point. Hands down they would make the most sense if you were going to wheel. I don't think he has an option out yet for the 2014 though you would have to call him. They mount on the frame rails meaning the strongest mounting system. The aluminess mount on the pinch welds on your rockers me personally I would not go this route. I know other members here are rocking them. I'm sure they will chime in.Kscardsfan wrote:Hey guys,

Re: Rails/running board recommendations.
I use the the truck for work in the oilfields. Which has taken me south of Moab, Utah on the side of a random mountain with two creek crossings (that ate a ford super duty, ranger, and Dodge 1500 while I was there). All the way to locations where you needed 4wd just to park because the mud was so deep and thick. When I'm home I do some light crawling but tend to find myself venturing off into creeks and swamps in search of ducks and hard to reach deer. It'll also be used some on the in law's farm to check fences and pull some stumps. It won't be some extreme Rubicon type shit, but I can say without reservation I can/will use more 4x4 capabilities than 75% of the truck buying population as well. The white knuckle has been catching my eye the most, but I want to find out if a 2014 option is coming.

I'd second the White Knuckle thoughts. If they had been an option when I had my rockrails made I would have gone that route. Hell, I'm still tempted to get those in the future and get rid of what I have. The WK look tougher than what I currently have.

I have the White Knuckle sliders, and absolutely love them. They make a god jacking point, and have taken some pretty solid hits with no damage. The kick out has been used multiple times to pivot the truck, and most importantly my wife can get in the truck.

Re: Rails/running board recommendations.
i like my power AMP boards. they tuck in their tight and drop down when door is open. i have an override switch installed to keep they up all the time or down all the time or automatic. i don't hard core wheel anymore so they haven't been dinged.

White knuckle sliders! Shit I have the front support bracket cut off mine and still have had most of the trucks weight held up on the slider. Tough SOB's. Mine have been heavily used.

Re: Rails/running board recommendations.
I have a 2014, & your options are limited for now! I've talked to Aluminess & they said their sliders will fit 2014, but aren't made to support the entire weight of the truck & can tear the rocker panels up pretty good if taken over serious rocky terrain. The option, if you call it that is a set of N-Fab nerds. I have also talked w/ WhiteKnuckle & the frame rails are completely different on the 2014, which requires a complete redesign & they have no time frame for the 2014 due to the current demand for others. I'll wait for a yr, & then just have a local fab shop make some based my own drawings.

Re: Rails/running board recommendations.
I've got some good fabricators locally. That might be the path I have to take. I appreciate everyone's advice and time. I'm enjoying learning about my truck. It's nice to have that kind if luxury and capability in the same rig.
