Lost the battle, but I will win the war

Post by jeepxj13 » Sat Jul 14, 2012 10:13 pm

So my mother-in-law always gives me hell about driving a PW. Always asking why I don't get a gas saver. Well today she asked if I could cut a tree down for her, so I got the idea if show her the POWER of the PW. I pulled up to the back gate and started to free spool the winch out, when I heard a "clank""clank". I popped the hood and sure enough the cable broke free from the drum. Well long story short no winch and not enough straps to pull it out. So not a good night for Bruce, but tonight I will be ordering more tackle for the truck and got to find a longer bolt for the winch. Then the 9' dead pine tree will be mine.

Haha, that's funny. I was working on cutting some trees up today, some of which were on top of my shed. It was a delicate situation and I was able to save my storage shed. They were blown over from the storm we had a couple weeks ago. The shed is in the picture, you just can't see it.

That bolt really dont hold anything. It just keeps it in place. In a pinch, i have seen duct tape work To hold it on & do the same thing as the bolt. You need to keep a minimum of 5 wraps on the drum. I like 8 better. But you probably knew that already.

We had a storm blow through our area recently and took out a bunch of trees in our neighborhood. I've been cutting up a good number of trees lately and actually used my winch to help fell a maple that had snapped about 25' high. I got the tree pulled over after a buddy cut a notch but when I was hand-spooling my winch line in my solenoid crapped out about 5 feet from being wound all the way in  I'll try to get some pics up tomorrow. Hopefully I'll have another job to do this week  More money for the never ending PW fund...

I never had anything but problems when I was using Warn electric winches. Now that I've had a Milemarker hydraulic for over 15yrs, I've never had any winch problems..... :P
