Ball joints NFG

Post by bigblackdodge » Wed Aug 06, 2014 10:17 am

So I have to change all 4 of my ball joints. I looked at the $800 carli ones (very nice) that have lifetime warranty. I also looked at a set from napa that are also lifetime warranty but are only $300. Why would I spend another $500 + shipping if I can get a lifetime warranty product for cheaper. I don't mind doing the work if I have to change them again but would they really be that different?

I've wondered the same, mine are still good for now but no way I'm spending that much for Carli's. One of the respected fabricators told me to get Moog when the time comes.

I only do what the majority of the 4 voices in my head tell me to. In most cases, I ignore two of them because one doesn't speak English, and I suspect the other is talking to someone else.

I think that's who makes those. They said they make them for both conventional and rack and pinion systems. I didn't think many trucks had rack and pinion these days....

I think the carli's are rebuildable but that wouldn't make it any easier for us. I'd go with the parts whore just for convenience, price vs warrenty and what not.

I would go with the Dynatracs over Carlis from what I have learned/ heard over the years. However, I am running moogs on mine and they seem to be holding up just fine. Save your money for cooler mods!

Well in my mind lifetime warranty is lifetime warranty. I need a trackbar too so if I go with the moogs I'll buy the adjustable track bar and still have cash left over!!!

Dynatracs all the way! I've been wheeling a lot of years and have seen a bunch of rigs on the trail with broken ball joints. It's sucks repairing one on the trail in the middle of no where plus it usually takes out other parts with it. You don't want to be that guy!

What's a good price for a set of 4 dynatracs? I have no idea who carries them so it will probably be online shopping time

There is another way to look at it. What does it cost Moog to make the ball joints and life time warranty them ? $50 maybe $75 They know most people wont own there vehicles too long or will never claim the warranty. It's good marketing. If your only going to keep your truck for 4 years or you don't abuse too much I'd go with the moogs. If you plan on hanging on to your truck I'd go with the Carlis, so you don't have to change them again. Look at the moogs and look at the carlis or dynatracs...do you see a difference ? I still have the stock ones in mine but would only want to change them once if possible.

Go with the moogs. That's what I'm running. Lifetime warranty speaks for itself. Never had a problem with them either

From my shop: "We do ball joints ALL THE TIME on 2500/3500 Dodges. We use Moogs & still have to change em out every 2 yrs or so on commercial trucks" (i.e.- plow trucks, landscaping trucks, etc.).

My truck was the first install of the Carli's for them. They said they doubt they will have to do that job again on my truck. Only time will tell.

If you are doing the labor & have the tools, go with the moogs. If you don't want to mess with them again, go with the Carli's or dynatracs.
