My goal is to get them to take mine in for trade (and give me what I owe) match my payments and do the same term I had before (72 months), and throw in an extended warranty. I've done the numbers over and over and because I use my truck for work I will likely never be payment free. But that is ok because of how I am reimbursed. Also because of work, I really like having my truck in warranty (my 2011 is now out of warranty). If they can meet my numbers it will be one hell of a good deal. I honestly don't think they will, but if they do I really don't know what I will do! I've even made a pros and cons list and am really torn.
For me, it always comes down to "mods",,,if yours is pretty much stock, then no brainer, pull the trigger as long as you're ok being in perpetual "payment" mode. Think of it as the lease folks, always driving a "new" car is worth always having a payment, but you retain the first rights to the title, vs the dealer. If you have a lot of $$, mods, and sweat equity in your 2011, then I'd be torn too. As I get older, the last thing I want to do is keep going back and re-buying and re-doing the knuckle busting work of pimping my ride. I kept my F250 king ranch for 3 yrs past the 5 yr pay-off because of how much effort I've put into that truck. Dumped it when the big maintenance diesel items kept creeping up.
Best of luck.
You make a great point. Here's my list of current mods and what I would do:
-Hellwig Load Pro helper springs: take them off and sell.
-315/70/17 Kelly Safari Tires: these tires are in great shape so if I think I can fit them on the 2014 PW stock I would have the dealer swap them over to the new truck and let them put the Duratracs on my 2011.
-Soft Tonneau Cover: I would likely just transfer this to the new truck. Or negotiate in the trade to let the dealer keep it on my 2011 and get a new one for the 2014.
-Myoung Locker Bypass: I would remove this and sell it (and I would REALLY miss this one mod)
-Airaid CAI: remove and sell
-CB and Cell Phone Booster: transfer to new truck.
-Bully Dog tuner: I would call Bully Dog and see if/when they would expect to have an update for the tuner to work with the 2014 6.4L. Then in would either keep it or sell it and maybe get a Diablo.
And here's the list of mods I would do right away on a 2014:
-315/70/17 tires if they will fit stock and if I can get a commitment from the dealer that they will not void the warranty with the larger tires (most dealers are pretty good about that around here).
-Air Lift air bags with Daystar cradles.
-Magnaflow muffler or full exhaust system.
-Soft tonneau cover.
-Tuner or speedo recalibrate for the larger tires.
-CB and cell booster.
